2005 Season Review
The Blazer Cross Country team was ready for the 2005 season right from the start. CSB opened up the year with two straight second place finishes accompanied by second place individual finishes by their senior leader Leah Wurm.
Saint Ben's also faired extremely well at a large competition at Notre Dame. Competing against some of the larger schools in the nation. The Blazers placed second out of 22 teams in their divisional rankings. Sophomore Kaylee Rasmussen finished eighth overall in a great performance.
Wurm continued her outstanding senior season by finishing second in a large field at the BluGold open. She finally captured her first first place finish a week later at the UMD Invitational.
The Blazers began to show their team efforts in a third place finish at the Carleton Invitational. Four CSB runners finished in the top 20, Wurm placed second.
At the MIAC championships the Blazers improved upon their previous season's finish to place sixth. Defending individual champion Wurm took fifth and fellow senior Emily Cook placed 33rd. Cook had a great season coming off a back injury that forced her to miss her entire junior season.
Saint Ben's took tenth in their region at the NCAA Division III Regional Championship. Wurm finished sixth to qualify her for nationals for the third time in her Blazer career. At the National competition she would finish 23rd, behind two other MIAC runners, to claim her second straight All-American Honors.
Wurm capped off her career after receiving the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
