ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- Led by eight points (six goals, two assists) from senior
Sami Hackley (Plymouth, Minn.), the College of Saint Benedict lacrosse team (3-5, 1-3 WIAC) set a program record for goals in a 28-1 win over Augsburg (0-7, 0-3 WIAC) on Wednesday at home.
In the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup, sophomore
Lilly Fandel Thompson (St. Louis Park, Minn.) tied a career high with four goals, while first-years
Emma Theisen (Rosemount, Minn.) and
Rayna Malmberg (Stillwater, Minn.) each scored three times. Malmberg added four assists for a personal-best seven points.
In total, CSB had 13 players score goals, including career firsts by
Addy Wood (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.),
Helena Siska (Naperville, Ill.) and
Jenna Fodstad (Rogers, Minn.). Junior
Lizzie Schrubbe (Andover, Minn.) totaled two goals and three assists for five points, pushing her career assist total to 86—the most in CSB history. Additional goals came from
Grace Fitzgibbons (Minneapolis, Minn.),
Bella Brisk (Oceanside, Minn.) and
Kamryn Peterson (Lindstrom, Minn.
Hackley pushed her career totals to 159 goals and 196 points with her seventh multi-goal game in eight contests this season. She now has 28 goals and eight assists for 36 points on the year. First-year goalie
Ashley Fischer (Madison Lake, Minn.) recorded four saves while allowing just one goal for the second time this season.
The Bennies opened a 9-0 lead after one quarter, fueled by two goals from Hackley. She added two more in the second quarter, while Fandel Thompson scored twice to help build a 16-0 halftime advantage. CSB added six goals in the third quarter for a 21-1 lead, then closed with seven more in the fourth, including two from
Ava Mosley, who now has 23 goals this season.
Improving to 4-0 all-time against Augsburg, the Bennies topped 20 goals for the third time this season—all coming in home victories. CSB dominated statistically, holding a 50-5 edge in shots, including 28-3 by halftime and 22-2 in the second half. The Bennies also led, 13-3, in ground balls and controlled draws by a 25-4 margin. CSB was a perfect 9-for-9 on clears, while Augsburg finished 5-for-9.
CSB is now off until April 15, when the Bennies host UW-Stout.
