SAINT PAUL, Minn. — The College of Saint Benedict tennis team (6-8, 4-5 MIAC) fell, 7-0, to Bethel (18-2, 8-2 MIAC) in conference play Saturday.
With the loss, the Bennies move to 4-5 in the MIAC and 6-8 overall, remaining tied for fifth place in the league standings alongside Hamline and Macalester as they continue to battle for one of six conference playoff spots. Saint Benedict will close the regular season Sunday at home against Carleton on Senior Day.
Bethel controlled play throughout, sweeping all three doubles matches before taking each of the six singles contests.
In doubles action,
Ellie Huber (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and
Marie Labenski (Northfield, Minn.) dropped a 6-0 decision at No. 1 to Lauryn Douglas and Michaella Sullivan. At No. 2,
Ella Marohl (St. Cloud, Minn.) and
Allyson Yahn (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) fell 6-0 to Payton Douglas and Lisey Langhus. The No. 3 pairing of
Lila Collins (Brainerd, Minn.) and
Claire Erdal was edged 7-5 by Bryna Eigenfeld and Claire Keller.
In singles play, Douglas posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Huber at No. 1, while Sullivan defeated Marohl 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Yahn fell 6-1, 6-2 to Keller at No. 3, and Collins was defeated 6-4, 6-2 by Langhus at No. 4. Labenski dropped a 6-0, 6-1 match to Malia McKinnon at No. 5, and
Kaitlyn Rahne (Hutchinson, Minn.) fell 6-0, 6-3 to Zadie Walwatne.
