ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict lacrosse team (3-5, 1-3 WIAC) returns to conference play Wednesday (April 15) against UW-Stout (5-7, 0-5 WIAC). Opening draw is set for 5 p.m. at the CSB Turf Field.
Under fourth-year head coach
Patrick Crandall (34 career wins), Saint Benedict opened the season with a pair of dominant home victories—21-2 over Edgewood and 21-1 against Milwaukee School of Engineering—before hitting a tougher stretch with losses to Carroll (17-7) and No. 18 Chicago (19-6). In WIAC play, the Bennies fell to UW-River Falls (13-8), No. 24 Colorado College (14-6), and UW-Eau Claire (12-10) before bouncing back emphatically with a 28-1 win over Augsburg in their most recent outing.
Inside CSB — By the Numbers
Through eight games, the Bennies hold a 107-79 scoring advantage and are outshooting opponents 33.6 to 24.9 per game. They are 14-for-42 on free-position attempts, own a 188-147 edge in ground balls, and have posted a 74.1% clear rate while forcing 78 turnovers. CSB has scored 20 or more goals three times, including a program-record 28 against Augsburg.
Senior
Sami Hackley (Plymouth, Minn.) leads the offense with 28 goals and eight assists for 36 points. She now has 159 career goals and a program-record 196 points, along with 40 multi-goal games. Hackley opened the season with seven goals against Edgewood and added six more in the Bennies' latest win against Augsburg, recording seven multi-goal performances this season.
Ava Mosley (Stillwater, Minn.) has totaled 23 goals and six assists, bringing her career totals to 73 goals and 19 multi-goal games. She posted three goals and four assists against MSOE after a five-goal season opener and has added three goals in multiple games, including matchups with Chicago, UW-River Falls, Colorado College, and UW-Eau Claire.
First-year
Rayna Malmberg (Stillwater, Minn.) has contributed 25 points (12 goals, 13 assists), while junior
Lizzie Schrubbe (Andover, Minn.) has recorded five goals and 18 assists. Schrubbe's five-assist performance against MSOE highlights a career that now includes 53 goals and a program-best 86 assists.
Additional scoring depth comes from first-year
Emma Theisen (Rosemount, Minn.), who has 14 goals, and
Lilly Fandel Thompson (St. Louis Park, Minn.), who has added 12.
Fischer Earns WIAC Honor
First-year goalkeeper
Ashley Fischer (Madison Lake, Minn.) has been a key presence in net and was named WIAC Kwik Trip Defensive Player of the Week on March 17.
Fischer recorded six saves and allowed just one goal in the 21-1 win over MSOE, holding the Raiders scoreless for more than 51 minutes. She posted a career-high 21 saves against UW-River Falls and has reached double-digit saves in four games this season. Through eight contests, Fischer owns a 9.98 goals-against average with 71 saves and 21 ground balls, the second-most on the team, while facing 199 shots.
Scouting UW-Stout
UW-Stout, led by second-year head coach Mikayla Knudson, has scored 135 goals this season while averaging 28.5 shots per game. The Blue Devils have collected 253 ground balls and hold a .662 save percentage.
Mai Nou Vang leads the offense with 44 goals and 61 points, while Megan Palmer has added 18 goals and 28 points. Brinley Tonn has contributed 15 goals and 25 points.

Saint Benedict holds a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series, including a 17-3 win on April 16, 2025, and a 16-7 victory on April 15, 2023.
