WINONA, Minn. — The College of Saint Benedict tennis team (4-6, 2-3 MIAC) dropped a narrow 4-3 decision to Saint Mary's (6-6, 1-6 MIAC) on Sunday.
The Bennies claimed the doubles point by winning two of three matches and added victories at No. 4 and No. 5 singles.
At No. 1 doubles, first-year
Ellie Huber (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and
Marie Labenski (Northfield, Minn.) defeated Elena Ruzevich and Emily Dondelinger, 6-3. At No. 2,
Allyson Yahn (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) and
Ella Marohl (St. Cloud, Minn.) earned a 6-4 win over Aheli Patel and Olivia Molumby. Saint Mary's picked up its doubles win at No. 3, where Harsha Gangasani and Maddie Jensen topped
Lila Collins (Brainerd, Minn.) and Claire Erdahl (Brainerd, Minn.), 6-0.
In singles play, Huber fell at No. 1 to Ruzevich, 6-0, 6-0, while Marohl dropped a 7-5, 6-2 decision to Dondelinger at No. 2. Patel edged Yahn at No. 3 in a tight three-set match, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (11-9).
The Bennies secured wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles.
Lila Collins (Brainerd, Minn.) defeated Taylor DePover, 6-3, 6-1, while Labenski added a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Molumby at No. 5. At No. 6, first-year
Kaitlyn Rahne (Hutchinson, Minn.) fell to Kathryn Stiegel, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-3).
Saint Benedict returns to action with a home match against St. Catherine on April 18, followed by a road contest at St. Scholastica on April 19.
