SARTELL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team (4-7, 2-4 MIAC) fell, 7-0, to St. Catherine University (13-5, 6-3 MIAC) on April 18 in conference play at Sta-Fit.
The Wildcats controlled the match include sweeping all three doubles flights to claim the opening point and build early momentum.
In singles play, St. Catherine secured victories across all six positions to complete the win. Despite the final scoreline, the Bennies continued to compete throughout the lineup but were unable to turn matches into points.
At No. 1 doubles, the tandem of
Ellie Huber (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and
Marie Labenski (Northfield, Minn.) dropped a 6-2 decision. At No. 2,
Ryanna Steinhaus and Marie Pelletier defeated
Ella Marohl (St. Cloud, Minn.) and
Allyson Yahn (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) by a 6-2 score. At No. 3,
Lila Collins (Brainerd, Minn.) and Claire Erdahl (Brainerd, Minn.) battled before falling, 7-6 (7-3), to Melanie Gravdahl and Lilianna Holmberg.
In singles, Simon defeated Huber 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1, while Holmberg earned a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win over Marohl at No. 2. Yahn fell to Pelletier, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 3, and Collins was defeated by King, 5-7, 2-6. At No. 5, Steinhaus edged Labenski, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (11-9) in a tightly contested match. At No. 6,
Kaitlyn Rahne (Hutchinson, Minn.) fell to Gravdahl, 6-3, 6-4.
Saint Benedict returns to action Sunday with a 1 p.m., MIAC match at St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn.
