Hackley and Mosley each score three goals but CSB lacrosse falls to UW-River Falls

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict lacrosse team (2-3, 0-1 WIAC) was edged, 13-8, by UW-River Falls (7-2, 1-0 WIAC) in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday at the CSB Turf Field.

Senior Sami Hackley (Plymouth, Minn.) led the Bennies with three goals and an assist, increasing her season total to 17 goals and 148 for her career. Sophomore Ava Mosley (Stillwater, Minn.) added three goals for the second straight game and now has 15 on the season and 65 in her career.

First-year Emma Theisen (Rosemount, Minn.) also found the back of the net for her 10th goal of the season, while first-year Rayna Malmberg (Stillwater, Minn.) added a goal. Helena Siska (Naperville, Ill.), Lilly Fandel Thompson (St. Louis Park, Minn.) and Lizzie Schrubbe (Andover, Minn.) each recorded assists.

In goal, first-year Ashley Fischer (Madison Lake, Minn.) turned in a strong performance with 21 saves.

Saint Benedict trailed, 5-3, after the first period and UW-River Falls had a 2-1 margin to take a 7-4 lead into halftime. The Falcons retained control in the second half, using a 3-2 advantage in the third quarter to build a 10-6 lead and matching that 3-2 margin in the fourth stanza to secure the 13-8 win.

UW-River Falls held a 46-23 advantage in shots, including a 27-10 edge in shots on goal, and also led 14-11 in ground balls. CSB went 13-for-21 on clears, while UW-River Falls finished 12-for-14. The Falcons also controlled the draw, 16-8. Turnovers proved costly for the Bennies, who committed 29 in the contest.

Saint Benedict will return to action on Friday, March 27, hosting Colorado College at 5 p.m.
