ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict lacrosse team (2-0) hits the road for the first time in 2026 as it travels to face Carroll University (7-0) at 11 a.m., Saturday in Waukesha, Wis., before continuing the trip with a 1 p.m., matchup Sunday against No. 18 Chicago (4-3) at Stagg Field.
FAST START FOR THE BENNIES
The Bennies enter the weekend with momentum after two dominant home victories, opening the season with a 21-2 win over Edgewood on March 7 and following with a 21-1 decision against the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Through two games, CSB owns a commanding 42-3 scoring advantage and has yet to allow an assist (28-0). The Bennies are averaging 56.0 shots per game while limiting opponents to just 7.5.
Saint Benedict has also controlled possession in every phase, holding a 65-17 edge in ground balls and a 23-8 advantage in caused turnovers. The Bennies have been perfect on clears (1.000) and lead draw controls 32-14.
FISCHER EARNS WEEKLY HONOR
That early success has been anchored in goal by first-year
Ashley Fischer (Madison Lake, Minn.), who was named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Kwik Trip Defensive Player of the Week on March 17. Fischer nearly posted a shutout in the 21-1 win over MSOE, making six saves and holding the Raiders scoreless for more than 51 minutes before allowing a fourth-quarter goal. Through 120 minutes this season, she has surrendered just three goals.
INSIDE CSB – BY THE NUMBERS
Senior
Sami Hackley (Plymouth, Minn.) has led the charge with 12 goals and four assists in the opening two games. Hackley now has 143 career goals and a program-record 176 points, along with 35 career multi-goal games. She opened with seven goals against Edgewood and added five in the win over MSOE.
Ava Mosley (Stillwater, Minn.) has added eight goals and four assists this season and now owns 58 career goals and 78 points with 14 multi-goal performances. She had three goals and four assists in the win over MSOE after scoring five goals in the opener.
Junior
Lizzie Schrubbe (Andover, Minn.), who had a goal and five assists against MSOE, has contributed three goals and nine assists, bringing her career totals to 51 goals and 77 assists.
The Bennies have also received strong production from their first-year class.
Rayna Malmberg (Stillwater, Minn.) has scored four goals, while
Emma Theisen (Rosemount, Minn.) and
Lilly Fandel Thompson (St. Louis Park, Minn.) have each recorded six goals. Fandel Thompson netted a career-high four goals in the win over MSOE.
SCOUTING CARROLL
Carroll enters Saturday's contest undefeated at 7-0 under 12th-year head coach Michael Hodge after capturing the CCIW regular-season title and advancing to the 2025 NCAA Division III Tournament. The Pioneers have totaled 107 goals and 61 assists while averaging 33.4 shots per game. They are clearing at an 82.1 percent rate and have collected 152 ground balls.
Elizabeth Wang leads Carroll with 24 goals and 14 assists (38 points), while Sierra Skack has 17 goals and 17 assists and Paige Helms has added 18 goals. In goal, Devon Duym (5.33 GAA) and Hannah McKenna (5.71 GAA) have split time.
SCOUTING NO. 18 CHICAGO
Chicago, ranked No. 18 in Division III, brings a 4-3 record into Sunday's matchup. The Maroons most recently defeated Catholic 18-8 before falling to No. 3 Tufts (16-7) and MIT (10-9). In her ninth season, head coach Kate Robinson has guided Chicago to 93 career wins, including a 13-5 mark in 2025. The program has won four CCIW championships, reached five consecutive NCAA tournaments and advanced to the Sweet 16 three times (2021, 2022, 2025).
Through seven games, Chicago has recorded 99 goals and 53 assists while averaging 32.9 shots per contest. The Maroons hold a 142-129 edge in ground balls and clear at a 77.4 percent rate. Wynne Goggan leads the team with 35 points (24 goals, 11 assists), while Peyton McGuire has a team-high 25 goals and Avery Song has added 17. In goal, Lily Brill is allowing 12.16 goals per game, while Kate Kim has a 13.59 goals-against average.
SERIES NOTES
Saturday's meeting will mark the first-ever matchup between Saint Benedict and Carroll. The Bennies and Chicago will meet for the second time, with the Maroons earning a 20-6 victory on March 9, 2025, in the programs' first meeting.
