ORLANDO, Fla. — The College of Saint Benedict tennis team split a pair of nonconference matches Tuesday during its spring break trip, defeating Edgewood, 5-2, after falling, 7-0, to UW-La Crosse earlier in the day to move to 2-2 on the season.

In the win over Edgewood, the Bennies secured the doubles point and added four singles victories to earn the 5-2 decision. At No. 2 doubles,
Allyson Yahn (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) and
Ella Marohl (St. Cloud, Minn.) earned a 7-5 win over Sophia Perret and Lauryn Krober, while
Lila Collins (Brainerd, Minn.) and
Claire Erdal (Brainerd, Minn.) posted a 6-2 victory over Christina Ekkela and Kaitlyn Narkis at No. 3. The No. 1 pair of
Ellie Huber (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and
Marie Labenski (Northfield, Minn.) fell, 6-2, to Evelyn Taylor and Hattie Plenty.
In singles play, Marohl rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-2) win at No. 2 over Plenty, while Yahn added a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 3 against Perret. Collins picked up her third win of the season with a 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-1) victory over Narkis at No. 4, and
Kaitlyn Rahne (Hutchinson, Minn.) secured a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 against Krober. Huber dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Taylor at No. 1, while Labenski fell in a tightly contested match at No. 5, 6-1, 1-6, 0-1 (8-10) to Ekkela.
UW-La Crosse 7, Saint Benedict 0
Earlier in the day, Saint Benedict was swept by UW-La Crosse (11-1), dropping all six singles matches and the doubles point.
At No. 1 singles, Shelby Roth defeated Huber 6-0, 6-2, while Caitlyn Stadter posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Marohl at No. 2. Lauren Lindow earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Yahn at No. 3, and Lily Jorgensen defeated Collins, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4. At No. 5, Hannah Cady recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win over Labenski, while Izabelle Brinkman closed out singles play with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Rahne at No. 6.
In doubles action, Roth and Tasha Bailey defeated Huber and Labenski, 6-2, at No. 1. Cady and Jorgensen posted a 6-0 win over Marohl and Yahn at No. 2, and Stadter and Maia Samuelson earned a 6-2 victory over Collins and Erdal at No. 3.
The Bennies return to the court Thursday, March 19, when they face Hamilton College.
