NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Led by a third straight pole vault title from senior
Jaylyn Ahlberg, the College of Saint Benedict track and field team sit in fifth place with 41.5 points after day two of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships at the Carleton Recreation Center.
St. Benedict controlled the pole vault competition, led by Ahlberg (Shoreview, Minn.), who captured her third straight indoor conference title with a season-best clearance of 3.53 meters (11-07.00). Her mark ranks 55th nationally in Division III. Ahlberg became the first athlete in program history to win three consecutive indoor pole vault titles and tied London Stelten (2014—2017) for the school record with five MIAC pole vault championships overall.
The Bennies placed three athletes in the top five of the event. Junior
Lili Raidt (Waconia, Minn.) finished tied for second and was All-MIAC with a season-best and indoor personal-best mark of 3.43 meters (11-03.00), while sophomore
McKenna Flinn (Redwood Valley, Minn.) added a fifth-place finish at 3.23 meters (10-07.00).
CSB also picked up a runner-up and All-MIAC finish in the triple jump from junior
Sabriya Farquharson (Nassau, Bahamas), who recorded a leap of 11.29 meters (37-00.50). First-year
Juslene Chea (St. Michael, Minn.) placed sixth in the same event with a mark of 10.75 meters (35-03.25).
Senior
Lauren Berg (Bemidji, Minn.) contributed with a fifth-place finish in the 800 meters, crossing the line in 2:17.84, just off her season-best time. St. Benedict also scored in two relays, placing eighth in the 4x200-meter relay (1:49.94) with a team of
Allee Feldman (Buffalo, Minn.),
Bella Lund (Mound, Minn.),
Myah Nelson (Brainerd, Minn.) and
Grace Buntrock (Rochester, Minn.). CSB was sixth in the 4,000-meter distance medley relay (12:57.76) with the squad of
Taylor Radaich (Prior Lake, Minn.),
Taylor Dean (Hutchinson, Minn.),
Daphne Grobstein (Golden Valley, Minn.) and
Anabella Witschen (Monticello, Minn.).
Additional point-scoring and notable efforts included
Julia Babineau (Andover, Minn.), who led CSB in the mile with a 16th-place time of 5:28.29. First-year
Taylor Dean (Hutchinson, Minn.) posted a season-best 1:01.57 to pace the Bennies in the 400 meters. In the 5,000 meters, senior
Mary Kenney (St. Paul, Minn.) finished ninth in 18:50.18, while junior
Christian Smith (Nassau, Bahamas) placed 18th in the weight throw with a mark of 13.01 meters (42-08.25).
CSB also had individuals advanced to the finals on Saturday in the 55-meter dash and 55-meter hurdles. In the 60-meter hurdles, Chea advanced as the top qualifier, clocking 8.34. Lund advaced in the 55-meter dash, qualifying sixth in 7.41.
The Bennies will look to build on their momentum as the MIAC Championships continue on Saturday with field events at 11:45 a.m., and running events are set to start at 1 p.m.
