ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- Senior
Presley Kraemer (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) recorded her second hat trick of the season and
Lexi Hueller (Maple Grove, Minn.) scored her first career goal as the College of Saint Benedict hockey team rolled to a 10-0 nonconference victory over Dubuque on Friday night at Ritsche Arena.
The win was the second straight for St. Ben's, which improved to 7-2-3, while Dubuque dropped to 2-12-0. Saint Benedict reached the 10-goal mark for the first time since 2005, marking the sixth time in program history the Bennies have scored 10 goals in a game and the 13th time they have reached double digits.
Kraemer's three-goal performance made her the first CSB student-athlete to record two hat tricks in the same season since Paula Vogt and Kelly Wegwerth accomplished the feat against Bethel in 2001. She is now the fifth player in program history to record two or more hat tricks in a career. First-year
Bailey Vesper (South Saint Paul, Minn.) had a goal and two assists while sophomore
Camryn Hargreaves (Minnetrista, Minn.) had two goals for the first time this year and now has nine in her career.
Saint Benedict set the tone early and never let up. Junior
Shae Stinnett (North Oaks, Minn.) opened the scoring just 2:26 into the game with her first goal of the season (10
th of her career), assisted by
Skylar Salscheider (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and
Chloe Lewis (Brooklyn Park, Minn.). The goal sparked a four-goal surge in the first 8:27 and a five-goal opening period.
Hargreaves followed with her first goal of the season at 2:32, converting an even-strength chance off an assist from Vesper, who then made it 3-0 at 7:11 with her second goal of the season, with first-year
Helena Siska (Naperville, Minn.) earning her fifth assist of the year. Hueller capped the early flurry with her first career goal at 8:27, pushing the lead to 4-0 as Vesper picked up her second assist of the game.
Kraemer closed the first period scoring with an unassisted goal at 18:48 to make it 5-0. She continued her standout night early in the second period, scoring at 2:11 off an assist from first-year
Regan Flohrs (St. Paul, Minn.). Kraemer completed the hat trick at 12:24, scoring even strength with first-year
Tana Carlson (Anchorage, Alaska) providing the assist to give the Bennies a 7-0 advantage heading into the third period.
The Bennies added three more goals in the final period. Senior
Kaya Pelton-Byce (Madison, Wis.) scored a short-handed goal at 1:29 for her second of the season, with Hueller earning her first assist of the year.
Ella Tuccitto (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) made it 9-0 at 3:03 on an even-strength goal assisted by Stinnett, and Hargreaves finished the scoring at 16:20. Tuccitto, who had her fourth goal of the season) and sophomore
Sasha Kleckner (Anchorage, Alaska) were credited with assists on the final goal.
In goal, junior
Savannah Wuitschick (Fargo, N.D.) had her second straight win of the season and her first career shutout while registering 13 saves.
Saint Benedict dominated statistically, outshooting Dubuque, 53-13, including a commanding 25-0 margin in the first period. The Bennies also controlled the face-off circle, winning 58.2 percent (32 of 55), with Siska accounting for 10 faceoff victories.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Ritsche Arena. The game will also serve as Senior Day, with Saint Benedict honoring six seniors in a postgame ceremony.
