VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The College of Saint Benedict soccer team (0-1) fell 3-0 to Virginia Wesleyan (1-0) in its season opener on Friday.
Virginia Wesleyan took control early, scoring all three of their goals in the first half. Shyenne Diaz opened the scoring at the 30:23 mark, followed by goals from Lyla Wells (40:59) and Alexis Manfredi (43:25).
VWU outshot CSB 18-5 and held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. The Bennies, however, recorded a 9-2 edge in saves, with sophomore Rhianna Anya making six stops and first-year goalkeeper Anna Mollenhauser adding one more.
Offensively, first-year Laila Totushek led CSB with two shots, including one on goal.
