EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- Despite a career-best eight-goal performance from first-year standout
Ava Mosley, the second-seeded College of Saint Benedict lacrosse team (10-6) fell short in the WIAC semifinals, dropping an 18-15 decision to No. 3 seed UW-Eau Claire (11-6) on Friday afternoon at Sonnentag Fieldhouse.
Both teams entered the semifinal with identical 7-2 conference records, but it was the Blugolds who advanced to the WIAC championship game, where they'll face top-seeded Colorado College at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Bennies will wrap up their season in the league's third-place game against No. 4 UW-La Crosse at 3 p.m. on Saturday. UW-La Crosse fell to Colorado College, 17-6, in the other semifinal.
Mosley delivered one of the most impressive performances in program history, scoring a career-high eight goals on 12 shots (10 on goal). Her output marked the most goals ever scored by a CSB player in a postseason game and tied the second-highest total in a single game in school history. Only
Sami Hackley's nine-goal effort against Augsburg on April 12, 2024, stands above it. With Friday's outburst, Mosley now owns the program's single-season goal record with 46 and has recorded 11 multi-goal games this year.
Hackley continued her strong campaign with three goals and two assists, bringing her season total to 38 goals and notching her 32nd career multi-goal outing. Sophomore
Lizzie Schrubbe contributed one goal and four assists for a five-point performance. First-years
Merrill Delich,
Lilly Fandel Thompson, and
Hannah Kurowski also added goals for the Bennies.
In net, junior

UW-Eau Claire opened strong, taking a 6-2 lead after the first quarter, outshooting CSB 14-6. The Bennies responded with a 4-2 second-quarter edge to narrow the deficit to 8-6 at halftime. The teams traded goals evenly in the third, each scoring six, with the Blugolds maintaining a two-goal cushion at 14-12 entering the final period. In the fourth, UW-Eau Claire edged CSB 4-3 to seal the victory.
Statistically, the Blugolds outshot CSB, 46-30 (31-17 in shots on goal), but were outworked on draw controls, 19-16. UW-Eau Claire held a 50-22 advantage in ground balls and converted 17-of-18 clears with CSB at just a season-low 11-of-23.
