CSB lacrosse falls to DII Northern Michigan on Sunday

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict lacrosse team (3-5) took a 15-4 loss to NCAA Division II Northern Michigan University (8-4) in a nonconference matchup on Sunday at the CSB Athletic Field.

With the loss, the Bennies drop to 3-5 overall and will return to WIAC play against Augsburg on Wednesday, April 9 at 4:30 p.m. in Minneapolis, Minn.

The Bennies fell behind early, being outscored, 3-1, in the first quarter. Northern Michigan then controlled the second quarter, scoring seven unanswered goals, and took a commanding 10-1 lead into halftime. The Panthers maintained control through the second half, outscoring CSB, 5-3, in the final two quarters to secure the victory.

Northern Michigan was led by Josie Lakosky, who had a standout performance, scoring seven goals.

For Saint Benedict, senior Sami Hackley continued her impressive season, scoring her team-leading 18th goal of the year and adding an assist. Hackley has scored in seven of the team's eight games this season, leading CSB with 26 points. She now has 108 career goals and 134 career points, both program all-time marks. First-year Ava Mosley contributed her 15th goal of the season, while fellow first-year players Izzy Bohlman and Hannah Kurowski scored their 14th and seventh goals, respectively.

In goal, junior Chloe Lewis made 10 saves, bringing her season total to 66 and her career total to 358.

As for team statistics, Northern Michigan outshot CSB 29-22 overall, including a 23-9 advantage in shots on goal. NMU also held a 15-14 edge in ground balls and an 11-10 advantage in draw controls. Both teams were perfect on clears, with NMU finishing 20-of-20 and CSB 14-of-14.
