ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team (4-5, 1-2 MIAC), which had a 1-1 record in conference play this past week, will face a three-game road swing from April 4-9. CSB will travel to face St. Catherine (9-3, 4-2 MIAC) on Friday, April 4; Concordia-Moorhead (0-17, 0-8 MIAC) on Sunday, April 6; and Hamline (8-5, 1-3 MIAC) on Wednesday, April 9.
St. Ben's faces St. Catherine at 6 p.m., on Friday, April 4 at 6 p.m., at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis, Minn. Then on Sunday, April 6, CSB has a road game at 1 p.m., at Courts Plus in Moorhead, Minn. The Hamline match is set for 3 p.m., on Wednesday, April 9 at InnerCity Tennis in Minneapolis.
The Bennies return home to play Saint Mary's on April 12 at the Chang Tennis Complex in Collegeville.
St. Catherine Notes
St. Catherine, coached by Ben Hageseth, comes into the match with a 9-3 overall record, including 4-2 in league play. On March 30, they dropped an 8-1 decision to Carleton College but defeated College of St. Scholastica, 5-4, on March 28 and Saint Mary's, 8-1 on March 21.
Series Notes – CSB leads St. Catherine, 20-16
CSB holds a 20-16 all-time record against St. Catherine, including 9-8 advantage at home. CSB is 8-7 in away matches against the Wildcats and 17-12 in conference play. In the most recent matchup, CSB lost a 6-3 decision on April 6, 2024. In the first match played between the schools, CSB lost, 6-3, on April 23, 1977. The Bennies last win against St. Catherine was a 5-4 win on March 17, 2023.
Series Notes – Concordia-Moorhead
CSB has a 32-2 all-time advantage over Concordia-Moorhead, including an 8-1 decision on April 7, 2024. At home CSB is 20-0 and own an 11-1 road mark with a 29-1 conference record. In the first matchup, CSB recorded a 9-0 win on April 25, 1977. In the last 10 matchups since 2015, the Bennies own a 10-0 record.
Concordia-Moorhead Notes
Jenna Forknell has served as the head coach for the Cobbers since 2023. Concordia most recently lost in MIAC play to St. Scholastica, 7-2, on March 30 and fell at Saint Mary's, 6-3, on March 15.
Season Recap
In their season opener on March 9, CSB lost 7-2 to St. Olaf. The Bennies earned two singles victories, with first-year
Lila Collins winning a hard-fought 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (12-10) match at No. 5 and sophomore
Kate Perbix securing a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6. However, St. Olaf won four out of six singles matches and swept all three doubles contests. During their spring break trip, CSB earned wins over Western Connecticut State (7-0), St. Norbert College (4-3), and Crown College (7-0). They suffered losses to UW-LaCrosse (7-0), SUNY-New Paltz (5-2), and Hamilton College (7-0), playing their matches in Altamonte Springs and Orlando, Fla. On March 29, the Bennies dropped a 9-0 decision to Bethel before rebounding with a 6-3 victory against Macalester on March 30, with both matches at home. Against Macalester, CSB won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles along with four singles wins by Yahn, Steinhaus, Collins and Perbix at No. 3-No. 6.
