COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – On Senior Day,
Sophia Jonas capped off her final home appearance in style, helping lead the College of Saint Benedict tennis team to a dominant 6-1 nonconference victory over UW-River Falls at the Chang Tennis Complex. With the win, the Bennies improved to 7-10 overall heading into their final MIAC regular-season match at Carleton on Sunday afternoon.
CSB swept all three doubles matches and won five of six singles contests, with Jonas at the forefront. The senior was celebrated Saturday for her leadership and dedication to the program.
Jonas cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Chloe Struss at No. 1 singles, her second straight-set victory of the weekend. Earlier in the day, she partnered with
Kate Perbix for a dominant 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles against Struss and Alexis Budzinski.
Sophomore
Ella Marohl earned a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles over Budzinski, marking her second consecutive victory. First-year
Allyson Yahn delivered a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles over Sarah Baker, while
Lila Collins and
Marie Labenski secured straight-set wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Collins topped Alicia Langbehn, 6-0, 6-3, and Labenski defeated Hailey Reuvers, 6-0, 6-2.
The only singles setback came at No. 4, where sophomore
Ryanna Steinhaus fell to Sydney Wiener, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles,
Ava Stritesky and Collins earned an 8-5 win at No. 2, while Yahn and Marohl notched their second straight victory at No. 3 with an 8-2 decision over Langbehn and Reuvers.
