Jonas/Perbix win at No. 1 doubles in CSB's loss to St. Scholastica

SARTELL, Minn. – Sophia Jonas and Kate Perbix earned a win at No. 1 doubles but the College of Saint Benedict tennis team (5-10, 2-7 MIAC) dropped an 8-1 decision to St. Scholastica (11-5, 5-3 MIAC) in MIAC play at Sta-Fit on Thursday (April 17).

With the loss, CSB falls to 5-10 overall and 2-7 in the MIAC. Next for CSB will be a pair of home matches against Northwestern (Minn.) on Friday, April 25 at 4 p.m., and against UW-River Falls at 1 p.m., on Saturday, April 26.

The bright spot for CSB came at the top of the doubles lineup, where Sophia Jonas and Kate Perbix delivered a strong performance, defeating Julia Maier and Paula Sendele of CSS by a convincing 8-2 margin.

However, the Saints swept the remaining matches. In doubles: In singles play, St. Scholastica won all six competitions. They included:
  • Maier edged Jonas, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1.
  • Bartels beat Marohl, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2.
  • Benitez defeated Yahn, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3.
  • In the most competitive match of the day, Ryanna Steinhaus battled hard but ultimately fell in a three-set thriller, 6-4, 3-6, 5-7 at No. 4.
  • Sosa defeated Collins, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5.
  • At No. 6, Claire Rewertz came from behind to beat CSB's Marie Labenski, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) in a super tiebreaker.
