ST. JOSEPH, Minn. - The College of Saint Benedict tennis team (5-9 overall, 2-6 MIAC) is set to host a trio of home matches over the next 10 days. CSB will host St. Scholastica (10-5, 4-3 MIAC) at 3 p.m., on April 17 at the Chang Outdoor Complex in Collegeville, Minn. If rain hits the area, the match will be moved indoors to Sta-Fit in Sartell, Minn.
Next week, CSB will have home matches against Northwestern at 4 p.m., on April 25 and UW-River Falls at 1 p.m., on April 26. The matches will be played at the Chang Tennis Complex in Collegeville, Minn.
Season Recap
CSB opened the season with a tough 7-2 loss to St. Olaf, before picking up momentum during their Florida spring break trip with wins over Western Connecticut State (7-0), St. Norbert (4-3), and Crown College (7-0). The Bennies dropped matches to UW-LaCrosse, SUNY-New Paltz, and Hamilton College during the trip. Returning home, CSB fell to Bethel (9-0) before bouncing back with a strong 6-3 win over Macalester. The team then split its next four matches, with wins over Concordia-Moorhead (7-2) and losses to St. Catherine (8-1) and Hamline (6-3). In the outing against Hamline, CSB saw strong singles performances from
Marie Labenski,
Lila Collins, and
Allyson Yahn. CSB also lost matches this past week to Saint Mary's (6-3), losing four tie-breakers in a closely contested match; and 9-0 to perennial tennis power Gustavus Adolphus.
Opponent Preview – St. Scholastica
Under the leadership of longtime head coach Wells Patten, who is in his 29
th year, the Saint enter Thursday match with a 10-5 overall record and 4-3 in MIAC play. In recent action they have three straight MIAC wins over Concordia, 7-2; Saint Mary's, 6-3; and Macalester, 8-1.
