CSB Tennis finishes 3-3 during spring break trip to Florida

ORLANDO/ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- The College of Saint Benedict Tennis Team concluded their spring break trip on Friday, splitting their final two matches to finish with a 3-3 record for the six-match stretch. The Bennies are now 3-4 overall and will return to action on March 29 to host Bethel in MIAC play at the Chang Tennis Complex in Collegeville, Minn.

During their spring break trip, CSB secured victories over Western Connecticut State (7-0), St. Norbert College (4-3), and Crown College (7-0). However, they were defeated by UW-LaCrosse (7-0), SUNY-New Paltz (5-2), and Hamilton College (7-0). The team played their matches in Altamonte Springs and Orlando, Fla.

Match Summaries:

Saint Benedict 7, Western Connecticut State 0
On March 16, CSB dominated Western Connecticut State (5-10) with a 7-0 victory. The Bennies swept all six singles matches and won the doubles point. In doubles, the No. 1 pair of Sophia Jonas and Ella Marohl, the No. 2 duo of Ryanna Steinhaus and Marie Labenski, and the No. 3 team of Kate Perbix and Allyson Yahn each won 6-1. Jonas, Marohl, Steinhaus, Lila Collins, Perbix, and Hannah Helms all won in straight sets in singles play.

UW-LaCrosse 7, Saint Benedict 0
On March 17, CSB (1-2) faced a tough opponent in UW-LaCrosse (13-2), falling 7-0. The Bennies lost all six singles matches and were defeated in all three doubles contests. The highlight for CSB came in the No. 1 singles match, where Jonas lost a tiebreaker to Tasha Bailey, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (7-10).

Saint Benedict 4, St. Norbert College 3
The Bennies bounced back with a 4-3 win over St. Norbert College, winning two of the three doubles matches and three singles matches. Collins earned her third win in four matches with a straight-set victory at No. 5 singles. In doubles, Perbix and Yahn won 8-6 at No. 2, while Steinhaus and Labenski earned an 8-2 victory at No. 3.

SUNY-New Paltz 5, Saint Benedict 2
CSB (2-3) dropped a hard-fought 5-2 decision to SUNY-New Paltz (8-2) on March 19. Collins recorded a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles, while Perbix triumphed 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 6 singles. Steinhaus and Labenski also teamed up for a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

Hamilton College 7, Saint Benedict 0
In their final match before heading home, CSB (2-4) was defeated 7-0 by Hamilton College (3-3). The Bennies were swept in both singles and doubles. Perbix fought hard in her No. 6 singles match, falling 5-7, 1-6.

Saint Benedict 7, Crown College 0
CSB ended their spring break trip on a high note, securing a 7-0 victory over Crown College (1-11). The Bennies won all six singles matches, with straight-set victories for Ella Marohl, Allyson Yahn, Ryanna Steinhaus, Kate Perbix, Marie Labenski, and a three-set win for Hannah Helms at No. 6. In doubles, Marohl/Perbix, Yahn/Collins, and Labenski/Helms all won their matches to complete the sweep, winning 18 out of 20 games.
