ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict lacrosse team, which was led by five goals from first-year
Ava Mosley and junior
Sami Hackley, delivered an impressive 23-4 nonconference victory over Hamline on Wednesday, March 12, marking a successful start to their home schedule.
With the win, CSB (2-1) will look ahead to their next game on March 26 at UW-River Falls, marking their first-ever WIAC conference game.
In the game, Mosley and Hackley had notable performances by scoring five goals each on eight shots and totaling eight points each (three assists for each player). For Hackley, she reached a significant milestone by becoming the first player in CSB lacrosse history to reach 100 career goals. She completed her fifth goal of the game at 2:13 of the fourth period, securing her place in the school's record books. Hackley now leads the team with 10 goals on the season and has accumulated 16 points, including three assists.
Mosley had her best performance yet with the Bennies, contributing five goals and three assists. She now has 11 points (2nd on CSB) for the season, with eight goals and three assists. Other first-year players with notable performances, included
Izzy Bohlman, who scored three goals, along with both
Merrill Delich and
Hannah Kurowski, who each tallied two scores. Sophomore
Lizzie Schrubbe added two goals and one assist, while first-year players
Lilly Fandel Thompson and
Leah Hahs also made contributions, each registering a goal. Senior
Emma Osland scored her 48th career goal, and senior
Emma Schrepfer recorded her 25th career goal.
CSB dominated the game from the outset, racing to an 8-2 lead in the first quarter, with Mosley scoring two of those goals. By halftime, St. Ben's had built a commanding 14-3 lead, and they extended the margin to 18-4 at the end of the third quarter. The Bennies finished strong with a 5-0 run in the fourth quarter to seal the 23-4 victory.
The team outshot Hamline 52-13, including a first-half advantage of 31-7. The Bennies also excelled in ground balls, recording 36 compared to Hamline's 7, and led, 18-13, in draw controls.
Defensively, CSB was solid, allowing just four goals, the second time this season they've held an opponent to such a low score. Junior goalkeeper
Chloe Lewis recorded five saves, improving her season record to 1-1 and her career record to 20-8. The Bennies also forced 13 turnovers while committing just six.
