ST. CLOUD, Minn. – In a near must win situation, the College of Saint Benedict hockey team delivered a victory as senior
Jenna Timm scored the game-winning goal in a 4-3 overtime win over No. 4 Augsburg University (19-3-1, 14-2-0 MIAC) on Friday (Feb. 14) at Ritsche Arena.
With the victory, St. Benedict picked up an important MIAC victory as the Bennies, now 11-9-3 overall, moved into fifth place in the conference standings with an 8-7-1 record and 23 MIAC points. With two games to play next weekend (Feb. 21-22) in a home-and-home series with Concordia, the Bennies sit in one of the five spots to qualify for the MIAC playoffs.
Tonight, St. Ben's found a way to victory against the No. 4 Auggies, which had won 12 straight games and now sit 19-3-1 and 14-2-0 in the MIAC. CSB ended a nine-game losing streak to the Auggies dating to 3-2 CSB win on Dec. 5, 2014, and beat a top five nationally ranked team for the first time since a 5-3 decision over No. 4 St. Thomas on Jan. 30, 2016, at the Dave Torrey Arena in St. Cloud.
For Timm, she tallied her 18
th career goal and her sixth of the season. In scoring her seventh career game-winning goal, she moved into a tie for third all-time with game-winning goals (Paula Vogt, 1998-01; Elli Marvin, 2013-17). Timm also had an assist during the game which was the 36
th of her stellar career as she ranks sixth all-time at CSB in that category
The Bennies jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first period, including first-year
Merrill Delich's first career goal at 4:19 of the period. Timm had her seventh assist of the season and
Ava Stinnett had her fifth assist of the season on the power play goal by Delich. Then at the 12:08 mark, first-year
Jorja Jusczak had her third goal of the year for the 2-0 lead. Junior center
Mia Lopez (6
th, season) assisted on the even-strength goal.
Augsburg opened the scoring in the second period as Livia Brehm had her fourth goal of the season at 3:35. The even-strength tally was assisted by Nora Stepan, who had her 10
th assist of the season. CSB answered by pushing the lead to 3-1 when senior
Ava Stinnett registered her fifth goal of the season and 30
th of her career at the 5:50 mark of the second period. Stinnett is now 10
th all-time in goals scored in CSB history. Assisting on the play was senior
Aurora Opsahl, who had her eighth assist of the season, and
Sami Boerboom who had her sixth assist of the season. For Opsahl, she now has 71 career points (team-high 15 points in 2024-25), which ties her with Elli Marvin (2013-17) for sixth all-time at CSB.
Down 3-1, Augsburg battled back to force overtime with goals in the second and third periods. Jenna Allen scored on an even-strength goal at the 8:56 mark of the second period to draw the Auggies within, 3-2. It was Allen's fifth goal of the year as Emily Schoeberl (7
th assist, season) and Nora Stepan (11
th assist, season) assisted on the play. Then at 7:05 of the third period. Schoeberl tallied her fourth goal of the season on a power play as Molly Grundhoffer (2
nd assist, season) and Grace Bonnell (12
th assist, season) assisted on the play.
At 3:12 in overtime, Timm scored an even-strength goal off an assist from
Mia Lopez (7
th assist, season) to deliver the win for the Bennies.
Overall, the Auggies held a 37-to-28 shots edge, including 9-to-2 in the third period and 6-to-2 in overtime. St. Ben's had an 11-to-9 shot edge in the opening period. Augsburg won 41-of-75 face-offs for 54.7 percent.

Chloe Lewis won 17-of-31 face-offs for a 54.8 percent success race. Senior
Kate Moffat, who earned her 20
th career win (2
nd all-time at CSB), followed up 35 saves on Thursday with 34 on Friday.
