ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Wth goals from
Aurora Opsahl,
Jenna Timm, and
Ella Tuccitto, the College of Saint Benedict rallied to secure a 3-2 victory over (RV) Hamline in MIAC play on Saturday night.
The Bennies, who had dropped three straight games, moved up to fourth place in the MIAC standings, improving to 7-4-1 in conference play and earning 21 MIAC points. Overall, Saint Benedict is now 10-6-1 on the season. Following a weekend split with Hamline, the Bennies hold a two-point lead over the Pipers, who are 11-8-0 overall and 6-6-0 in the MIAC with 19 points.
Next up for CSB is a home-and-home series against No. 7 Gustavus Adolphus on Feb. 7-8, with the Bennies hosting the Gusties at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
After suffering a tough 7-3 loss to Hamline on Friday, Saint Benedict came out strong, jumping to a 1-0 lead early on. Despite falling behind 2-1, St. Ben's rallied in the third period with two quick goals to secure the win.
The game began with a scoreless first period before Opsahl opened the scoring at 2:48 of the second, putting CSB ahead 1-0. The senior now has goals in consecutive games, bringing her season total to five and her career total to 35, ranking sixth all-time at CSB. She also has 69 career points, good for seventh in school history.
Sami Boerboom, a senior, earned the assist on Opsahl's goal, marking her fourth assist of the season.
Hamline responded with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead. Iyla Ryskamp tied the game with a power-play goal at 9:59, and just under three minutes later, Brooke Klemz scored an even-strength goal at 12:46 to give the Pipers the advantage heading into the third period.
But the Bennies are known for their resilience at home, where they've posted a 23-12-3 record over the past three seasons. Tonight was no different, as they fought back in the third period.
Ella Tuccitto tied the game at 2-2 at 8:41 with assists from
Chloe Lewis (her fourth of the season) and
Emily Wendorf (her ninth of the season). Less than two minutes later,
Jenna Timm put the Bennies ahead with a slapshot from 20 feet on the power play at 10:24. Timm's fifth goal of the season, assisted by
Presley Kraemer (her fourth assist of the season), gave CSB the 3-2 lead, which they held onto for the remainder of the game.
Despite being outshot 32-24, the Bennies won 53% of the faceoffs (33 wins to 29 losses). Goaltender
Kate Moffat was exceptional in the net, recording 30 saves to earn her seventh win of the season and the 19th win of her career, moving her into second place on CSB's all-time wins list (24, Kristen Blumberg, 1998-00).
