Opsahl scores 36th career goal but CSB Hockey falls to No. 4 Gustavus, 4-1

ST. PETER, Minn. – Aurora Opsahl netted her 36th career goal, but the College of Saint Benedict hockey team (10-7-3, 7-5-1 MIAC) fell to No. 4 Gustavus (16-4, 11-2 MIAC) by a score of 4-1.

With the win, Gustavus remained in second place in the MIAC standings, boasting an 11-2 conference record and a 16-4 overall mark. CSB, meanwhile, dropped to 10-7-3 overall and 7-5-1 in MIAC play for fifth place. The Gusties scored twice in both the first and third periods to secure the victory. Despite cutting the deficit to 2-1 in the third period on Opsahl's goal, the Bennies couldn't get any closer.

Opsahl's goal, her sixth of the season, pushed her career total to 36, and she now sits in sixth place on the CSB all-time goals list. Her 69 career points are seventh in school history, just two shy of sixth place (Elli Marvin, 71, 2013-17).

The scoring began at 8:06 of the first period when Gustavus capitalized on a power play. Macy Janssen found the net with assists from Brooke Power and Kylie Scott. In the final minute of the period (19:14), Janssen scored again with help from Power and Kylie Ligday, giving the Gusties a 2-0 lead.
The second period was scoreless, but at 1:27 of the third, Opsahl brought CSB within one with her sixth goal of the season. Emily Wendorf recorded her team-leading 10th assist on the play, making it a 2-1 game.

However, the Gusties quickly responded. On a power play at 11:16, Kaitlyn Holland netted her 11th goal of the year, extending the Gustavus lead to 3-1. Noelle Hemr (12th assist) and Abby Elliott (6th assist) provided the helpers. Just 16 seconds later, at 11:34, Kayla Woytcke added another for Gustavus, bringing the score to 4-1. Emma Heyer and Lindsay Berggren both picked up assists.

Gustavus outshot CSB 39-16 overall, including a 19-5 advantage in the third period. CSB goalie Kate Moffat recorded 35 saves, with 17 of those coming in the final period. Gustavus goalie Lily Timmons stopped 15 shots. In faceoff battles, the Gusties came out on top 36-23, with CSB's Chloe Lewis winning 10 of her 25 faceoffs.
