NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- Despite a goal from sophomore
Jorja Jusczak, the College of Saint Benedict hockey team suffered its first MIAC loss with a 5-1 decision to St. Olaf (3-5, 2-2 MIAC) on the road. With the loss, CSB falls to 3-2 overall this season and 3-1 in the MIAC. The Bennies are tied for second in the league.
In the opening period, St. Olaf took a 1-0 lead as Emilie Anderson tallied a goal at 18:44 off an assist from Solvei Berg-Messerole. It was the first goal allowed by CSB goalie
Lexi Badali (St. John, Ind.) since the third period of a 2-1 win on the road at St. Scholastica (Nov. 15), or a period of 119:56 minutes on the ice. Tonight, Badali finished with 24 saves, including 12 in the third period.
Jusczak (Moose Lake, Minn.) answered and drew CSB even at 1-1 on a shorthanded goal at 5:11 of the second period. It was the second career goal and first of the season for Jusczak. At 8:44, the Oles took a 2-1 lead on a power play goal by Belle LaMere, assisted by Berg-Messerole and Nora McConnell. At 4:34, the Oles extended the lead to 3-1 on a goal from Berg-Messerole off assists from Kellsey Kludt and Anderson. In the third period, the Oles added a pair of goals to take the 5-1 decision. The Oles had goals from Emma Heath at 10:26 and Anderson at 19:48 on an empty net goal.
In terms of shots, CSB had a 32-29 advantage, including 13-7 in the second period and 15-14 in the third. The Bennies were led in shots by
Helena Siska (Naperville, Ill.) with six while
Shae Stinnett (North Oaks, Minn.),
Presley Kraemer (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and
Mia Lopez (Plymouth, Minn.) all had four. In terms of faceoffs, the Bennies won 24 and lost 41 for 36.9 percent. Lopez had eight wins as did Siska in faceoffs.
Next for CSB will be a road trip to face Lake Forest College on Nov. 29 and 30 in Lake Forest, Ill.
