LAKE FOREST, Ill. — The College of Saint Benedict hockey team (4-2) skated to a 3–2 road win over Lake Forest (6-3) on Saturday, using goals from
Regan Flohrs,
Merrill Delich and
Jorja Jusczak to secure its fourth victory of the season.
The Bennies, now 4–2, also improved to 3-2 in the all-time series against the Foresters. The teams will face off again Sunday (Nov. 30) at 11 a.m. at the Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.
CSB broke through early in the second period when Flohrs ( St. Paul, Minn.) scored her first collegiate goal — a shorthanded strike at 7:56 — with an assist from
Helena Siska (Naperville, Ill.). Lake Forest briefly evened the score at 11:14 on a tally from Tallulah Bryant, but the Bennies closed the period with a surge.
With just seconds left in the frame, sophomore
Merrill Delich (Andover, Minn.) capitalized on a power play opportunity, punching in her second goal of the season — and third of her career — to restore CSB's lead. The play was set up by
Camryn Hargreaves (Minnetrisa, Minn.) and Siska, who recorded her second assist of her college career.
Lake Forest knotted the game again at 7:10 of the third period on an even-strength goal by Ella Maher, her fourth of the year. But the Bennies answered once more. On the power play,
Jorja Jusczak (Moose Lake, Minn.) delivered the decisive goal, giving CSB a 3–2 edge. It marked her second goal of the season and her second game-winner. On the goal, senior
Mia Lopez (Plymouth, Minn.) had her second assist of the season and 15
th of her career.
First-year goaltender
Sam Knutson (Chicago, Ill.), making her second start, earned her first collegiate win. She stopped 12 shots and allowed just two goals in 59:45 of work. In the faceoff circle, CSB collected 17 wins, led by Lopez and Siska with six apiece.
