ST. CLOUD, Minn. — The College of Saint Benedict extended its winning streak to three games Friday (Nov. 21), leaning on a pair of timely firsts to secure a 1-0 victory over St. Olaf at the Ritsche Arena.
Junior forward
Emily Wendorf (Minnetrista, Minn.) broke through early, burying her first goal of the season just 5:14 into the opening period. The tally—her seventh career goal and second career game-winner—stood up the rest of the way.
First-year goaltender
Lexi Badali (St. John, Ind.) continued to excel in leading the Bennies' defense. In making her third straight start, Badali turned away all 11 shots she faced to earn her first collegiate shutout and improve to 3-0. Through her opening 179:54 of college hockey, Badali has allowed just four goals—three on the power play—posting a 1.33 goals-against average and a sterling .949 save percentage with 74 stops.
The Bennies (3-1, 3-0 MIAC), who outshot the Oles, 21–11, and controlled play with a 15–6 shots edge over the final two periods, now sit in a tie atop the MIAC standings with Hamline.
Wendorf led CSB with four shots, while the Bennies won 20 of 50 faceoffs, highlighted by strong outings from first-years
Helena Siska (Naperville, Ill.), who went 7-for-17,
Renee Doyle (Anchorage, Alaska), 5-of-6, and
Mia Lopez, who added six draws of her own.
The two teams meet again Saturday in Northfield, Minn., for the second half of the home-and-home series, with puck drop set for 6 p.m.
