Tuccitto and Doyle score goals to deliver a 2-1 win by CSB Hockey over St. Scholastica

Bennies win second straight and sit tied for first place in the MIAC

DULUTH, Minn. — Powered by goals from Ella Tuccitto and Renee Doyle, the College of Saint Benedict hockey team secured its second straight victory and completed a weekend sweep of Saint Scholastica with a 2–1 win Saturday at Mars Lakeview Arena.

The Bennies improved to 2–1 overall and 2–0 in the MIAC, pulling into a three-way tie atop the conference standings with St. Catherine and Hamline. CSB now turns its attention to a home-and-home series with St. Olaf, beginning Nov. 21 at Ritsche Arena in St. Cloud, Minn., and concluding Nov. 22 in Northfield, Minn.

Tuccitto (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) opened the scoring early in the second period, burying her first goal of the season — and the fifth of her career — at 4:33. She converted off assists from first-year Tana Carlson (Anchorage, Alaska), who recorded her first collegiate point, and sophomore Sasha Kleckner (Anchorage, Alaska). Doyle (Anchorage, Alaska) doubled the lead later in the period, netting the first goal of her career on an even-strength play, again set up by Carlson and Kleckner.

Saint Scholastica trimmed the deficit to one with an even-strength goal from Alaina Hedberg, assisted by Bailey Coole and Grace Chapman, but first-year goaltender Lexi Badali (St. John, Ind.) held firm. Badali earned her second straight win, stopping 34 of 35 shots and allowing just a single goal.

Despite being outshot 35–30 — including 15–6 in the third period — CSB controlled play early, building a 24–20 shots advantage through the first two periods as it established its 2–0 lead. The Bennies also excelled in the faceoff circle, winning 27 of 46 draws. First-year Helena Siska (Naperville, Ill.) went 11-for-16, while Mia Lopez (Plymouth, Minn.) finished 9-for-14.
