WINONA, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team continued its winning streak on Saturday, Oct. 18, using standout performances from
Kali Jones and
Mackenzie Knofczynski for a 3-1 road win over Saint Mary's University.
The victory by set scores of 25-20, 22-25, 25-9 and 25-21, marked CSB's third straight in MIAC play and sixth win in its last seven matches, improving the Bennies to 14-4 overall and 5-1 in conference play. As a result of the win, CSB head coach
Nicole Hess recorded her 350th career win.
Junior middle hitter
Kali Jones turned in one of her most outstanding all-around performances of the season, recording her 32nd career double-double with 17 kills and 17 digs. She hit a season-best .483 on 29 attacks, with just three errors and added four service aces. It was Jones' third straight double-double, and her 12th consecutive match with double-digit digs. She now has 744 career kills and surpassed the 800-dig mark, sitting at 805.
Knofczynski, a senior, provided steady support with 11 kills, three blocks, five digs, and a service ace. She hit .391 on the night with just two errors on 23 swings, helping CSB dominate at the net and maintain momentum throughout the match.
After opening with a 25-20 first-set win, CSB dropped the second set, 25-22, despite strong service pressure that yielded five aces. The Bennies rolled in the third set with a 25-9 win over SMU. The Bennies hit .483 with 16 kills and just two errors. CSB kept control in the fourth and final set, hitting .297 to close out the match with a 25-21 win.
Statistically, CSB was sharp across the board. The team posted 59 kills on 141 swings with a .291 hitting percentage, adding 10 service aces, 66 digs, five blocks, and 51 assists. First-year setter
Ginny Schuler stepped up with a career-best 24 assists and seven digs, while senior
Chaeli Haupert anchored the defense with 16 digs, pushing her career total to 1,150.
Also contributing were
Brooke Andries with eight kills (.250),
Brooke Siegle with seven kills (.400), and McKenna Moerhle, who hit .417 with six kills and just one error on 12 attempts.
The Bennies now sit in second place in the MIAC standings heading into a crucial stretch of the season. Next up is a road trip to Augsburg on Wednesday, Oct. 22, followed by a return home to host St. Olaf on Family Night, Saturday, Oct. 24.
