ST. JOSEPH, Minn. — Behind a dominant performance from junior
Kali Jones and a breakout night for
Keira McManus, the College of Saint Benedict volleyball team powered past St. Catherine in straight sets on Saturday night at Claire Lynch Hall, winning, 3-0 in MIAC play.
Jones notched her 31st career double-double, finishing with 15 kills and 16 digs, while McManus recorded a career-high 12 kills to help the Bennies (13-4 overall, 4-1 MIAC) secure their fifth win in their last six matches. The victory keeps CSB in second place in the MIAC standings.
The Bennies claimed the sweep by scores of 25-23, 25-22, and 26-24, twice rallying from late deficits—including a pair of 23-18 holes in both the first and third sets—to seal the win.
Jones matched her season high in kills, hitting .268 on 41 attacks, and added a service ace to finish with 16.5 total points. McManus was equally effective, hitting a blistering .333 on 27 swings.
Brooke Andries chipped in with eight kills, while
Kate Stadum had a season-high in kills and hit .300 on 20 attacks.
Defensively, CSB was anchored by senior
Chaeli Haupert with 21 digs and a service ace. Sophomore setter
Izzy Torve turned in her fourth double-double of the season with 21 assists and 13 digs.
As a team, the Bennies totaled 49 kills on 162 attacks for a .173 hitting percentage. They also collected 43 assists, eight service aces, 78 digs, and six blocks.
In the opening set, CSB erased a 23-18 deficit with a stunning seven-point surge to win, 25-23. They posted 17 kills in the frame, outpacing St. Catherine with 13. The second set saw CSB stay in control throughout, taking a 25-22 decision behind 15 kills.
The third set followed a similar pattern to the first, as St. Catherine surged ahead, 23-18, before CSB responded. The Bennies tied it at 23, then closed out the match with two clutch points after the Wildcats knotted things at 24.
The Bennies now turn their attention to a road matchup at Saint Mary's on Saturday, Oct. 18.
