Lopez and Moffat lead CSB Hockey to a 6-0 win over MSOE

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team (7-3-3), which had two goals and an assist from Mia Lopez and a shutout from goalie Kate Moffat, cruised to a 6-0 victory over the Milwaukee School of Engineering (2-11-2) on Saturday, Jan. 11, at Ritsche Arena. Five different players found the back of the net, led by Lopez.

With this win, CSB improved to 7-3-3 overall, marking their seventh victory in the last 10 games (7-1-2). The Bennies will next face St. Catherine in a MIAC home-and-home series on Jan. 17-18, beginning with a home game on Friday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m.

Lopez, who tallied two goals and an assist, now has 10 points on the season. She has scored five goals and added five assists in 2024-25. Moffat was pivotal in the shutout victory, recording 13 saves and securing her fifth career shutout, which ranks fourth in CSB history. Moffat, who is now 4-2-1 on the season, has 15 career wins, placing her fifth all-time in CSB history. Her current goals-against average stands at 2.45, with a .909 save percentage.

In addition to Lopez, CSB received goals from senior Jenna Timm, senior Emma Rooks, junior Presley Kraemer, and senior Shauna Miller. Senior Aurora Opsahl contributed two assists, bringing her season point total to nine. With 65 career points, she now ranks seventh all-time at CSB.

CSB took a 1-0 lead over MSOE when Timm scored her second goal of the season at 11:53 of the first period, unassisted. St. Benedict outshot MSOE 15-3 in the opening period, and that shot differential only grew as CSB continued to press. The final shot count was 56-13 in favor of the Bennies.

Lopez extended the lead to 2-0 with her first goal of the night at 5:00 of the second period. The third period saw CSB score four times in just 12 minutes. Rooks opened the scoring in the third with her fourth goal of the season and 24th of her career, assisted by Lopez and Opsahl, at 1:25. Kraemer (12th of her career) then netted a power-play goal at 8:21, assisted by Opsahl, for a 4-0 lead. Lopez added her second goal at 10:27 to make it 5-0. Miller (eighth career goal) rounded out the scoring at 12:09, with her second goal of the season, assisted by Kaya Pelton-Byce and Brooklyn Johnson.

In addition to dominating shots, the Bennies also excelled in the faceoff circle, winning 73% of faceoffs (44 out of 60). Chloe Lewis won 14 of 18 faceoffs, Lopez won 10 of 15, and Miller was successful in 9 of 11.
