Timm and Wendorf lead CSB Hockey to 6-2 win over St. Catherine Friday

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Jenna Timm and Emily Wendorf were among six different players to score goals as the College of Saint Benedict hockey team (8-3-3, 5-1-1 MIAC) rolled to a 6-2 win over St. Catherine (4-9-1, 2-5-0 MIAC) in MIAC play on Friday (Jan. 17) at Ritsche Arena.

With the victory, St. Ben's captured its eighth win in the last 11 games to improve to 8-3-3 overall. With the MIAC victory, CSB is now 5-1-1 and tied with Hamline (5-2-0) for third place in the MIAC with 15 league points. The Bennies, which will travel to face St. Catherine on Saturday (Jan. 18) at 2 p.m., sits three MIAC points out of first place (Augsburg, Gustavus, both 6-1-0 with 18 points).

For the second straight game, CSB scored six goals in a game and have a 12-2 scoring edge over opponents during those two games.

The Bennies had a 35-27 edge in shots against St. Catherine while winning 30-of-57 faceoffs for a 52.6 percent success rate.

St. Ben's opened the scoring at 12:27 of the first period on an even-strength, unassisted goal by junior Kaya Peyton-Byce at the 12:27 mark. St. Catherine answered with two goals from Michelle Smith, including an unassisted tally at the 13:42 mark to tie the game, 1-1. Her goal at 17:38 of the first period, which included assists from Samantha Bogen and Paige Loidolt, provided the Wildcats with a 2-1 lead. However, CSB sophomore Ella Tuccitto responded with an even strength goal at 19:37 to draw CSB even. She recorded her third goal of the season.

In the second period, CSB, led by Timm and Wendorf, dominated play by scoring four goals for a 6-2 lead. Both Timm and Wendorf had a goal and an assist as the Bennies took control in beating the Wildcats for a fourth straight time.

At the 8:32 mark of the second period, Wendorf scored an even strength goal for a 3-2 lead. Wendorf scored her first goal of the season with sophomore Shae Stinnett recording her fifth assist of the year. CSB's lead grew to 4-2 when Timm recorded a power play goal at 10:37 of the second period. It was Timm's third goal of the season and 15th of her career. Shae Stinnett had her second assist of the game and sixth of the year on the scoring play.

At 14:36 of the second period, senior Ava Stinnett tallied her third goal of the season and 28th of her career on a power play. Junior Presley Kraemer had her third assist and Wendorf added her sixth assist of the season. The Bennies concluded the scoring when sophomore Brooklyn Johnson had an even strength goal at 17:12. Assisting on the play was Timm, who had her fifth of the season and Jamie Bimberg, who had her first assist.

For Timm, she registered her 34th career assist which moved her into sixth place all-time at St. Ben's. As for Stinnett, she has 28 goals in her career, which is just one away from 10th all-time at CSB (29, Mollie Wise, 2016-20).

In the net, senior Kate Moffat allowed just two goals and record 25 saves, including 18 over the final two periods of play. She now is 5-2-1 this season has 16 career wins which ranks sixth in school history.
