Avery Soli scored her fourth goal of the season, but the College of Saint Benedict soccer team fell 2-1 to Saint Mary's in a tightly contested MIAC matchup at the CSB Outdoor Athletic Complex. With the loss, CSB's record stands at 3-2-4 overall and 0-1-2 in MIAC play.
In the first half, the teams exchanged goals early on. Saint Mary's took a 1-0 lead with Maren Clow scoring in the 22nd minute, assisted by Lauryn Skoruppa. However, Soli equalized for CSB in the 21st minute with an assist from
Alli Voss. The goal allowed by Waters was the first she has permitted in over 225 minutes of play.
The decisive goal came late in the game when Samantha Munson netted the game-winner for Saint Mary's in the 80th minute, her fourth of the season.

Annie Waters made seven saves for CSB, while Saint Mary's Anna Peckosh recorded five saves. For Waters, the goal in the first half was the first she had allowed in over 225:00 minutes in the net. CSB was outshot 19-13, including a 12-3 disadvantage in the first half. SMU also had a 4-to-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Bennies will look to bounce back in their next game against Augsburg on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 7:30 p.m. in Minneapolis.
