CSB Soccer falls to Augsburg, 1-0, in MIAC play

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict soccer team fell to Augsburg in a close 1-0 MIAC matchup on Tuesday at Edor Nelson Field in Minneapolis. With the defeat, CSB's record now stands at 3-3-4 overall and 0-2-2 in MIAC play, while Augsburg improves to 5-2-3 overall and 1-0-3 in the league.

CSB will look to bounce back in their upcoming homecoming match against St. Catherine at 3 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the CSB Outdoor Athletic Complex. The Bennies fought hard throughout the game, marking their eighth match this season decided by one goal or less, in which they hold a 2-2-4 record.

In the first half, both teams' defenses dominated, leading to a tightly contested game. CSB outshot Augsburg 12 to 6, with a notable 5 to 1 advantage in shots on goal. The second half continued to follow the same course, with CSB edging the shot count 7 to 6, totaling 19 to 12 for the match. The Bennies also had a decisive 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Augsburg took the lead at the 57:51 mark when Jayla Ponce, the Auggies' leading scorer, netted her ninth goal of the season. Ponce finished with a game-high five shots.

CSB goalie Annie Waters had a solid performance, allowing just one goal while making two saves. Emily Cavanaugh led St. Ben's with four shots, while Avery Soli added three, including one on goal. Alli Voss, Olivia Miller, and Emma Young each contributed two shots.

Augsburg's goalie, Tess Enlow, made eight saves to secure the shutout for the Auggies.
