DECORAH, Iowa – Sophomore
Natalie Parnell netted her first career goal to help the College of Saint Benedict soccer team (3-1-4) secure a 1-1 tie against Luther (0-5-3) in nonconference play on Sunday, Sept. 22.
This marks the third consecutive draw for the Bennies and their fourth tie of the season, a feat last accomplished in 2017 (9-3-4). Up next, CSB will host Saint Mary's for a MIAC matchup on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 1 p.m.
Both teams found the back of the net once in a match that saw 28 total shots, 11 of which were on target. CSB had the upper hand with 17 shots compared to Luther's 11 and held an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Bennies also led in corner kicks, 5-3.
Luther struck first just after halftime, with Riley Anderson scoring her first goal of the season off an assist from Hannah Gordon at the 47:02 mark. CSB answered in the 63rd minute when Parnell scored unassisted to level the game at 1-1.
Senior goalkeeper
Annie Waters had another strong performance, making one save in playing 17:11. Waters, who has two shutouts this season, has conceded only three goals in eight games, totaling 720 minutes of play. She boasts 39 saves and a 0.929 save percentage on the year. She has not allowed a goal in over 202 minutes dating back to the Wartburg game. In the game against Luther, all three CSB goalies played, contributing to the solid defensive effort.
Madisen Carter (44:04, save) and
Rhianna Anya (28:45) also recorded time in the net.
