WAVERLY, Iowa –
Avery Soli scored in the second half as the College of Saint Benedict soccer team (3-1-1) played to a 1-1 draw against Wartburg (2-3-1) on Saturday, Sept. 14.
With the tie, Saint Benedict now stands at 3-1-1 overall and will look ahead to their MIAC opener against Macalester on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 4 p.m., at the CSB Outdoor Athletic Complex.
After a scoreless first half, the Bennies struck quickly in the second. Sophomore
Avery Soli netted her third goal of the season, with
Alli Voss assisting for her second assist of the year. Voss now has 12 points this season, including five goals, a mark that is third in the MIAC. However, with just 84:38 on the clock, Wartburg's Maya Anderson scored the game-tying goal on an assist from by Lauren Kirkle.
At halftime, CSB led in shots 8-6, including a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal. In the second half, Wartburg outshot the Bennies, 7-5, but CSB had a 2-1 edge in shots on goal. Overall, the Knights had a 4-3 lead in corner kicks and committed 14 fouls to the Bennies' eight.
