CSB Tennis ends season falling to No. 25 Bethel in MIAC Playoffs

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.— Junior Ashley Tarrolly secured a win at No. 1 singles and the No. 3 doubles team also won but the No.6 seeded College of Saint Benedict tennis team (7-11) fell to No. 25 nationally-ranked Bethel University (18-3) by a score of 5-2 in the MIAC quarterfinals on Tuesday, April 30 at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex.

Saint Benedict ended the season with an overall 7-11 record. The Bethel Royals will advance to Thursday's semifinal matchup against No. 34 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn.

At No. 1 singles Tarrolly, who has received regionally-ranked votes this year, defeated Lauryn Douglas, 6-2, 6-0. Tarrolly improved to 8-6 on the season with a second straight win over Douglas. CSB won the No. 3 doubles match as first-year Kate Perbix and senior Jane Bodensteiner defeated BU's Bryna Eigenfeld and Courtney Nuest, 8-5, improving their record to 8-3.

At No. 1 doubles, juniors Tarrolly and Sophia Jonas fell, 8-5, to Lauryn Douglas and Michaella Sullivan of Bethel. The CSB No. 1 doubles team finished the season with an overall record of 8-5. At No. 2 doubles, CSB dropped an 8-4 decision as senior Peyton Kopel and junior Greta Nesbit were defeated by Julia Baber and Emma Thole. Kopel and Nesbit had their record fall to 10-7.

At No. 3 singles, Bethel's Baber defeated Nesbit who dropped to 6-11 after losing in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Jonas, who is now 7-8, dropped the No. 5 singles match to Nuest, 6-2, 6-3. First-year Ryanna Steinhaus also fell in straights sets, 6-1, 6-1, to Malia McKinnon as she finished the season with a 5-9 overall record.

Two other singles matches were unfinished as the result of Bethel reaching five points and winning the match. These matches were at No. 2 and No. 4 singles. Playing at No. 2, Sullivan led Kopel, 6-2, 5-2, and at No. 4, Thole had a 6-3, 3-0 lead over Bodensteiner when play was stopped.
