WINONA, Minn.- Led by goals from sophomore forward

Shauna Miller, the College of Saint Benedict hockey team (8-11-2, 4-8-2 MIAC) defeated No. 14 nationally-ranked Saint Mary's University (16-5-0, 10-4-0 MIAC) 2-1 on Saturday (Feb. 3) on the road.
Saint Benedict, which is 8-11-2 overall, improved to 4-8-2 in the MIAC for seventh place with 14 points. Saint Mary's, which sits in fourth with 30 MIAC points and a 10-4-0 MIAC mark, fell to 16-5 this season.
CSB, which ended SMU's eight-game winning streak, have defeated the Cardinals in three of the past four games, including 3-1 and 3-2 a year ago at the Ritsche Arena in St. Cloud. The Bennies, which tallied second period goals from Lewis and Miller, allowed a single goal in the final period and defended down the stretch to pick up the win over a ranked opponent. This was the first time the Bennies have defeated a ranked opponent since the 2015-16 campaign when CSB swept No. 4 nationally-ranked University of St. Thomas on Jan. 29, 2016.
"We took advantage of opportunities and played a full 60 minutes of hockey. What really stood out was the energy on the bench, we were all pulling for each other and that energy transferred into a great team win," said CSB second-year head coach Lindsey Macy.
During the match-up, the Bennies won 32-of-35 faceoffs for 47.8 percent , SMU had a 41-to-16 edge in shots. Junior forward
Ava Stinnett won 15- of-27 faceoffs for 55.6 percent, while Miller was successful on 11-of-21 faceoffs for 52.4 percent. Miller led CSB in shots with three while

In goal, junior goaltender
Kate Moffat allowed one goal while registering 40 saves. SMU's Celeste Rimstad allowed two goals and made 14 saves in the loss.
Macy was pleased with the focus and work of her team on the road in a tough MIAC conference.
"Beating a ranked opponent shows that we can play with top teams and beat them. We have been in close games and battled, it was fantastic for the game to go our way today," added Macy.
Game Summary
After a scoreless first period, Lewis found the back of the net at the 3:28 mark of the second period. She tallied her second goal of the season and fifth of her career.
At the 13:39 mark of the second period, senior forward
Jamie Benzie found Miller for a back door feed to put CSB up 2-0 at the end of the second period. Benzie recorded her second assist of the season and eighth of her career. Miller's goal was the second of the season and sixth of her career.
SMU responded on the power play at the 5:53 mark of the third period when Kas Kingston (4th, season) cut the deficit to 2-1. Allie Urlaub was credited with the assist (15th, season).
Next up for CSB will be a home and home series with St. Olaf on Feb. 9 at home and on the road on Feb. 10.
