Justus Floren and
Ellie Selisker of the College of Saint Benedict indoor track and field team registered top-five finishes and earned honorable mention all-conference honors in the pentathlon competition as part of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championships, which opened on Thursday, Feb. 22.
Peyton Selle of Concordia-Moorhead won the pentathlon with 3,291 points with AnnaGrace Nelson of Bethel second with 3,220 points. On Thursday, Floren was fourth in the pentathlon by recording 2,963 points. A junior from Sauk Rapids, Minn., Floren had her third straight top-four finish at the MIAC indoor pentathlon in three years. Floren was third in each of the past two years. Selisker, a senior from Baxter, Minn., had a career-best total of 2,881 points, bettering her previous best of 2,772 on Feb. 2 at North Dakota State. She also improved on her seventh place finish of a year ago with a mark that ranks in the top 10 in program history.
As a result, the Bennies had nine total points and sit tied for second place with Bethel in the team standings which they take into the competition on Friday and Saturday. Concordia-Moorhead has 13 points for the top spot.
The 2024 MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships continue in full on Friday. Field events will start at 2:30 p.m. and track events follow at 4 p.m. Saturday's final session starts with 11 a.m. field events and 1 p.m. track events.
Summary - Pentathlon
In the five-event pentathlon, Floren totaled 2,963 points for fourth. Floren finished second in the shot put with a throw of 10.75M - 35-03.25 for 579 points. In addition she placed fifth in the long jump by going 4.91M -16-01.25 for 535 points. Floren clocked 2:44.45 in placing sixth in the 800-meters and totaling 523 points. She was seventh in both the 60-meter hurdles in 9.98 for 716 points and in the high jump, going 1.49M - 4-10.5 for 610 points.
Overall, Selisker took fifth with 2,881 points. She placed third in two events, including the 800-meters in which she clocked 2:39.62 for 577 points. She was third in the long jump by going 5.15M – 16-10.75 for 601 points. Selisker was fifth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.87 for 527 points and sixth in the high jump by going 1.49M - 4-10.5 for 610 points. In the shot put, she was 17
th at 7.32M - 24-0.25 for 356 points.
Two others from CSB competed in the pentathlon for the first time. Those two Bennies student-athletes included first-year
Drea Terwedo of LeSueur, Minn., who finished with 2,269 points for 12
th and first-year
Joel Makem Ratzinger, who was 17
th with 1,818 points.
Terwedo finished eighth in the 800-meters with a clocking of 2:46.59 for 500 points. She had a 1.37M - 4-06 in the high jump for 11
th and 481 points and then had a 12
th place finish in the long jump at 4.33M - 14-02.25 for 386 points. She was 13
th in the 60-meter hurdles at 10.92 for 550 points. She had a 7.27M - 23-10.25 toss in the shot put for 18
th and 352 points.
Ratzinger, a first-year from Shakopee, Minn., was ninth in the shot put with a throw of 7.6M-24-11.25 for 374 points. She also finished 11
th in the 60-meter hurdles with her clocking of 10.83 generating 565 points and in the 800-meters with a 2:48.28 clocking earning 471 points. She was 17
th in the long jump at 4.16M – 13-07.75 and scored 345 points.
