Brown and Timm record goals as CSB Hockey concludes season with 2-0 win over St. Kate's

Bennies honored seniors Brown, Benzie and Nelson post-game

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – It is perhaps fitting that on Senior Night, forward Corrine Brown  recorded the game-winning shot.

Brown who scored a goal in her fourth straight game, lifted the College of Saint Benedict hockey team to a season-closing 2-0 win over Saint Catherine in MIAC play at Ritsche Area.

Brown, who finished her career with 18 career goals with a career-season-best seven goals in 2023-24, helped lead the Bennies to its fourth win in five games and registered a sweep against Saint Catherine. With Brown's performance, and an empty net goal from Jenna Timm, CSB moved to 11-12-2 on the season with a 7-9-2  mark in the MIAC. With 23 MIAC points, CSB finished in a tie for sixth place in the league.

Following the win, CSB hockey, led by head coach Lindsay Macy,  honored Brown of St. Paul, Minn., Jamie Benzie of Moose Lake, Minn., and Abby Nelson of Chaska, Minn., in a Senior Night post-game ceremony. It was a group that accumulated 28 career goals, helped CSB to double digit win seasons three straight years and a total of 35 wins, including 24 in MIAC play.

Brown, who was named MIAC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, has scored three goals in the past two games against the Wildcats after scoring in back-to-back games against St. Olaf last week. In 78 career games, Brown had 18 goals, 31 assists and 49 points. She finished tied for seventh all-time in career assists with 31.

On Saturday night, Brown's even-strength goal at 8:03 of the second period gave CSB a 1-0 lead. Junior forward Ava Stinnett had her fifth assist of the season on the play. Then, after St. Catherine had pulled its goalie, Timm tallied her first goal of the season, directing the puck nearly the length of the ice for a short-handed, empty net goal at the 19:24 mark for a 2-0 lead.

While the offense shined in a 6-1 win on the road in St. Paul on Friday (Feb. 16), it was the defense, led by first-year goal Delaney Norman that was the difference on Saturday. Norman had 18 saves with her third shutout in six starts this season. With the third shutout, she and teammate Kate Moffat finished the season tied for most in a season with Ally Frantzick, 2019-20 and 2022-23; Jenna Traut, 2012-13; Kate Hall, 2000-01; Kristen Blumberg, 1999-00; and Mary Welle 1997-98.

On the night CSB had a 29-to-18 shots edge and had a 62-to-33 edge in the past two games. CSB was 0-of-4 on power plays while St. Catherine finished 0-of-2. In face-offs, CSB again held a substantial edge with 33 wins in 53 opportunities for 62.3 percent. In the two wins against the Wildcats, CSB had 67 wins in 112 opportunities for 59.8 percent.
