Hargreaves and Salscheider lead CSB Hockey to 7-0 win over Northland

Bennies sweep Northland with back-to-back shutouts

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – First-year Camryn Hargreaves scored two goals and first-year Skylar Salscheider had three assists to lead the College of Saint Benedict hockey team (5-2-2) to a 7-0 win in nonconference action over Northland College (0-5-0) on Wednesday (Nov. 27) at the Ritsche Arena.

St. Benedict scored its highest total of goals this season with seven and the most since an 8-0 win over the University of Dubuque on Dec. 8, 2023. With the victory, CSB is 5-2-2 after sweeping Northland College in consecutive shutouts. CSB, which won 5-0 on Nov. 26, outscored the Lumber Jills, 12-0 over the past two games.

The Bennies, which sit 3-0-2 at home, are unbeaten in its last six games, which includes a mark of 4-0-2 with a scoring differential of 20-to-6 with three shutouts, one by each of his three CSB's three goalies (Kate Moffat, Delaney Norman, and Ellynor Haack). CSB had back-to-back shutouts for the first time since recording four straight on Dec. 8-9 (Dubuque) and Jan. 4-5 (Lake Forest) in 2023. Next for CSB will be a home and away series in MIAC play with Bethel on Dec. 6 at home and in St. Paul, Minn., on Dec. 7.

Hargreaves continues her impressive first season with the Bennies as she had two more goals and a team-high six on the year. CSB also had goals from Shae Stinnett, who had her fourth of the year, Emma Rooks, Ella Tuccitto, Mia Lopez, and Kaya Pelton-Byce. Rooks, Stinnett and Hargreaves scored goals for a second straight night. Salscheider had three assists and now has a team-best seven on the season.

CSB controlled the action throughout the contest with a 62-to-11 shot advantage The Bennies also converted one of its three power plays while stopping Northland on four power plays. The Bennies took a 3-0 lead after the first period, added three more goals in the second period and another in the third stanza.

Junior Kaya Pelton-Byce opened the scoring at 3:20 on an even strength goal off assists by Skylar Salscheider (5th of the season) and Presley Kraemer (2nd of the season). At 15:44, Stinnett had her fourth goal of the season (6th in her career) with an even strength goal for a 2-0 lead. Tuccitto (fourth of the season) and Morgan Cromwell (second of the season) had assists on the play. CSB's lead grew to 3-0 after Rooks tallied a goal at 16:32 of the first period. On the play, Salscheider had the second of her three assists on the night. Rooks had her second goal of the season and the 22nd of her career.

Just 15 seconds into the second period, Tuccitto converted a power play goal off assists by Salscheider and Stinnett (fourth of the season). At the 1:21 mark of the second period, Hargreaves had her first goal of the night for a 5-0 lead. The even strength goal included assists from senior Aurora Opsahl and first-year Sasha Kleckner. At the 9:03 mark of the second period, Mia Lopez had her second goal of the season for a 6-0 lead. Rooks and senior Sami Boerboom assisted on the play. Hargreaves concluded the scoring on the night with her sixth goal of the season at 16:43 of the third period. Lopez (third of the season) and Opsahl (third of the year) assisted on the play.

Junior Ellynor Haack recorded her first shutout of the season and her career. She registered 11 saves on the night as she now has 72 this season with 1.45 goals against average and a .931 saves percentage.

CSB won 56.4 percent of the faceoffs with 31 wins in 55 this year. Chloe Lewis led CSB by winning 85.7 percent of the face (12 won in 14 attempts) while Lopez was successful on 11-of-18 for 61.1 percent.
