Shae Stinnett delivers game-winner in overtime to lift CSB Hockey past St. Olaf, 2-1

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Sophomore Shae Stinnett delivered the game-winning goal in overtime to lift the College of Saint Benedict hockey team (3-2-1, 3-0-0 MIAC) to a 2-1 victory over St. Olaf (2-5-0, 0-3-0 MIAC) in MIAC play on Friday night (Nov. 22).

For the second time in MIAC play, the St. Ben's registered a goal in overtime to pick up a victory. Overall, St. Ben's have played three overtime games this season with a 2-0-1 mark. After the victory, CSB, which hosts St. Olaf at 6 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Ritsche Arena in St. Cloud, moved to 3-2-1 overall with a 3-0-0 record in MIAC play. With its seven league points, CSB sits in second in the conference.

For Stinnett, it was her second goal of the season and fourth of her career and came at 3:16 of overtime off an assist from junior Mia Lopez, who had scored a game-winning overtime goal last weekend against St. Scholastica (2-1 win).

The Bennies opened the scoring in the first period when junior Chloe Lewis scored her third goal of the season - 9th of her career – on an even strength goal at 8:12 off assists from Jenna Timm and Ella Tuccitto. For Timm, she registered her 32nd career assist to move into seventh all-time in program history.

At the 14:40 mark of the opening period, St. Olaf's Solvei Berg-Messerole tied the game on an even strength goal with an assist from Molly Terebayza. For the next two periods and into overtime, the defenses for both teams had control until Stinnett came up with the game-winner.

Overall, the Oles had a 62-to-40 shots edge, including 33-to-23 in shots on goal. However, CSB's defense was clutch on power plays stopping all six by St. Olaf. The Bennies also had 15 blocks in the game. The home-standing Oles also won 33-of-59 faceoffs.

Leading St. Ben's defense was senior goalie Kate Moffat, the reigning MIAC Defensive Player of the Week. She allowed just one goal on the 33 shots on goal and registered 32 saves. Moffatt had 12 saves in each of the first two periods with 14 in the third stanza and two more in overtime.
