GAME PREVIEW -- CSB Hockey opens MIAC schedule with home and away against St. Scholastica

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- The College of Saint Benedict hockey team (0-2-1) will open the MIAC schedule with an away and home matchup against St. Scholastica (0-3-0) on Nov. 15 and 16. The Bennies and Saints will play at 3:30 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 15 at the Mars Lakeview Arena. Then, CSB hosts CSS in its MIAC home opener at Ritsche Arena on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m.

Following the games this weekend, the Bennies have an away and home MIAC matchup with St. Olaf on Nov. 22-23. The Bennies play at St. Olaf on Nov. 22 before hosting the Oles at 6 p.m., on Nov. 23.

 CSB, directed by third year head coach Lindsay Macy, opened the season with a loss to No. 1 and defending national DIII champion UW-River Falls (1-0), 8-2 in River Falls, Wis. Then CSB took a 5-4 road loss to UW-Superior on Nov. 5 as first-year Camryn Hargreaves had two goals. On Nov. 12, the Bennies and UW-Superior played to a 2-2 tie (Yellowjackets had a 2-0 advantage in the shootout for the point).

Through three games, the Bennies, which finished 11-12-2 a year ago, have totaled eight goals and allowed 15. The Bennies have been outshot 26.7 to 21.0. In goal, CSB has 65 saves, with opponents having 55. The Bennies have converted 2-of-6 power players for 33.3 percent while oppon ents face at 28.6 percent on 2-of-7 conversions. CSB has won 83-of-153 faceoffs for a 54.2 percent success mark.

St. Scholastica Notes
Julianne Vasichek begins her third season as the head coach for St. Scholastica. A former standout with Minnesota-Duluth in 2001-05, she helped them win national titles in 2002-03 and later was part of the 2003-04 USA National Team. So far, the Saints sit 0-3 after a loss to No. 1 UW-River-Falls, 5-2. The Saints also took a 3-0 and 2-1 loss against St. Norbert in DePere, Wis.

Series Notes
When CSB meets St. Scholastica on Friday afternoon, the teams will play for the seventh time. CSB has an overall record of 2-3-1 against the Saints. On Nov. 18, 2023, at home, the Bennies and St. Scholastica played to a 1-1 draw. St. Ben's last win against the Saints was a 5-2 decision on Nov. 17, 2023 at Ritsche Arena. In the first-ever matchup in Duluth, Minn., the Saints took a 5-2 decision on Jan. 11, 2011.

CSB Inside Info
This season, the Bennies have had eight goals, scored by seven players with first-year Camryn Hargreaves scoring a pair of goals. Junior Presley Kraemer has a goal – 10th of her career – and an assist. Junior Chloe Lewis, who has seven career goals, also has a goal and an assist.

Senior forward Ava Stinnett scored a power play goal against UW-River Falls. Stinnett, who has played in 76 career games, has 26 goals, 24 assists, and 226 shots on goal.
The Bennies also have goals from Jamie Bimberg, Shae Stinnett and Jorja Jusczak. First-year Skylar Salscheider has two assists and as does Emily Wendorf.
In goal for CSB, junior Ellynor Haack has 43 saves and a .915 save percentage in 105:00 on the ice. Senior Kate Moffat has a .690 save percentage on 20 saves this season. CSB has scored two or more goals in each of its three games with 36 blocked shots on defense.
