CSB Soccer falls to Bethel, 1-0, in closely contested MIAC contest

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – In a tightly contest defensive battle, the College of Saint Benedict soccer team (4-6-4, 1-5-2 MIAC) dropped a 1-0 decision to Bethel (6-5-3, 2-4-2 MIAC) on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 19).

With the setback, CSB fell to 4-6-4 overall and 1-5-2 in MIAC play. Bethel improved to 6-5-3 and 2-4-2 in the MIAC. Next for CSB will be a the final home game of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 22., when the Bennies host St. Scholastica at 3:30 p.m., at the CSB Outdoor Athletic Complex. In games decided by one goal or fewer, CSB is 3-4-4 in 2024.

In a tough defensive battle, Bethel had the only goal of the game on an unassisted tally from Malia Beilby, who had her ninth goal of the year at the 19:57 mark of the first half.

Overall, the Bennies had a 22-to-12 shots edge against Bethel, which included an 12-to-6 margin in shots on goal. The Bennies also held an 8-to-4 margin in corner kicks. 

CSB goalkeeper Annie Waters faced six shots on goal as she registered five saves. Waters continues to excel as one of the best goalies in the league, ranking fourth in saves (72) and save percentage at .857. She is fifth in saves per game at 5.14 and with a .971 goals against average, Waters is sixth in the conference.

Summer Seamans led CSB with four shots, including two on goal. Olivia Miller, Addison Stephani and Emma Young also had three shots on goal.
