ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Alli Voss netted her sixth goal of the season, leading the College of Saint Benedict (4-4-4, 1-3-2 MIAC) to a 1-0 victory over Gustavus Adolphus (6-4-3, 1-4-1 MIAC) during Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday (Oct. 12) at the CSB Outdoor Athletic Complex, which celebrated Employee Day.
With this win, CSB secured its first MIAC victory of the season, improving to 1-3-2 in conference play and maintaining an overall record of 4-4-4. The team's next challenge will be a road game against Concordia on October 16 at 3:30 p.m.
"We showed tremendous resilience to earn a MIAC win today," said CSB head coach
Steve Kimble. "I was really proud of their effort. It was a gritty, persistent performance that led to a positive result."
Voss leads the team with 15 points this season, having recorded her sixth goal, which ranks seventh in the MIAC. Over her career, she has accumulated 26 goals and 63 points.
After a scoreless first half, she broke the deadlock with a goal in the 83rd minute, assisted by
Summer Seamans. Following Voss's goal, CSB tightened its defense to stifle any Gustavus attacks and successfully managed the clock to secure the win.
Senior goalkeeper
Annie Waters anchored St. Benedict's defense, achieving her fourth shutout of the season and the tenth of her career. She boasts a .879 goals against average and a .874 save percentage, making eight saves against 20 shots from the Gusties.
CSB tallied a total of 16 shots, with nine coming in the first half and seven in the second. Voss led the attack with five shots, while
Sydney Burns,
Regan Melz, and
Summer Seamans each contributed two. Gustavus was led by a game-high six shots from Cambelle Waldspurger, and held a slight edge in corner kicks, 3-2.
