ST. CLOUD, Minn. –
Aurora Opsahl recorded a game-winning goal and
Delaney Norman starred in goal as the College of Saint Benedict hockey team (7-4-2) registered its program-best fourth straight shutout after a 1-0 non-conference win over Lake Forest (9-7) on Friday afternoon at the
Ritsche Arena.
For Saint Benedict, the victory resulted in a fourth consecutive shutout – all at home – in improving to 7-4-2 on the season. For the first time in school history, the
Bennies recorded four straight shutout victories. Prior to the win today (Jan. 5), the Bennies recorded 8-0 and 6-0 non-conference shutout wins over Dubuque plus a 4-0 win over Lake Forest on Thursday (Jan. 4). "We had an outstanding defensive effort," said CSB head coach
Lindsay Macy, who has led CSB to 21 wins in two seasons. "Rory (
Aurora Opsahl) came up with a big play in the third period and Delaney shined in the goal with a number of big stops."
Opsahl, who became the second CSB student-athlete to record a hat trick or better in the past three games in the 4-0-win last night, had the seventh game-winning shot of her career with an even strength goal at 4:15 of the third period.
Morgan Cromwell had her second assist of the season on the play. With four goals this weekend, Opsahl, a junior forward from Duluth, Minn., now has 28 career goals and leads the team with 11 goals in 2023-24. Opsahl has scored goals in five straight games and leads the Bennies in points with 14.
In goal, the
Bennies had another solid strong performance from first-year
Delaney Norman, who had her second straight shutout and is now 2-1-0 on the season. Norman recorded 22 saves as she now has improved her goals against average to 2.33 and her save percentage to .917. CSB, which has five shutouts on the year, have two each by Norman and
Kate Moffat, who registered her third career shutout in the 4-0 win over Lake Forest Thursday.
In total, CSB owned a 34-to-22 shots edge as senior forward
