Boerboom scores 10th career goal but CSB Hockey falls at No. 2 Gustavus

ST. PETER, Minn. – Junior forward Sami Boerboom scored her 10th career goal, but the College of Saint Benedict hockey team (7-6-2, 3-3-2 MIAC) lost a 6-1 road MIAC decision to No. 2 Gustavus Adolphus (11-2, 8-0 MIAC) on Saturday, Jan. 13.

With the setback, the Bennies dropped to 7-6-2 overall and 3-3-2 in the MIAC and with 11 league points sit in fifth place in the conference. Gustavus has 24 conference points and with an 8-0-0 record sit in first place. Next up for CSB will be a home-and-home series against Hamline on Jan. 19-20. The Bennies host the Pipers on Friday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m., at Ritsche Arena.

Gustavus jumped to a 3-0 lead after the first period before CSB's tallied its goal off an even strength play opportunity by Boerboom, who had her second goal of the season and 10th of her career. CSB's Shauna Miller had her second assist of the season on the scoring play.

The Gusties opened the scoring with an even-strength goal by Molly McHugh at 5:19 of the first period. Assisting on the score was Hailey Holland with her first of three assists in the game. At 8:57 of the first period, Avery Braunshausen had her second goal of the year and a 2-0 lead on an even strength goal as Holland and Kayla Woytcke assisted. GAC moved ahead, 3-0, when Brooke Power had her eighth goal of the season, again on an even-strength tally. On the play, H. Holland had her third assist of the game and now has eight this season.

After CSB scored at the 11:15 mark of the second period on Boerboom's goal, GAC recordedthe final three goals of the game. Hannah Gray scored her fifth goal of the season with an even strength score at 16:05 of the second period. On the play, Emily Olson had her eighth assist and Lindsay Berggren tallied her first assist of the year as the Gusties led, 4-1. GAC scored twice in the third period as Kylie Scott had her third goal of the year with an even strength tally. On the play, Lily Mortenson had her fifth assist and Molly McHugh had her seventh assist of the season. GAC's Kaitlyn Holland finished off the scoring on an even strength goal at 4:26 of the third period as Kylie Ligday had her third assist of the season.

CSB goalie Kate Moffat recorded 38 saves in 60 minutes in goal. She fell to 4-4-2 on the season. GAC's Katie McCoy had 14 saves and one goal allowed in 60 minutes on the ice as she is now 10-2-0 on the season.

Saint Benedict was outshot, 44-to-15. The Bennies won 14 of 34 face-offs with junior forward Ava Stinnett registering nine wins in 21 opportunities. Shauna Miller won 5-of-11 face-offs. For GAC, McHugh won 11-of-13 face-offs and Power was successful in 11-of-14 opportunities.

Stinnett also had a team-high four shots while Boerboom and Corrine Brown both had three shots to lead the offense.
