Emma Rooks scored her fifth goal, but the College of Saint Benedict hockey team (7-7-2, 3-4-2 MIAC) dropped a 3-1 MIAC decision to (RV) Hamline (13-3-0, 8-1-0 MIAC) on Friday (Jan. 19) at Ritsche Arena.
With the loss, CSB dropped to 7-7-2 overall and 3-4-2 for 11 league points and seventh in the MIAC. Hamline is 13-3-0 overall with an 8-1 mark and second place with 23 points in the MIAC. The Bennies and Pipers will finish the home-and-home series with a 2 p.m., game in St. Paul, Minn., on Saturday (Jan. 20).
Hamline opened the scoring with an even-strength goal from Elizabeth Valley, who had her sixth goal of the season on assists from Morgan Wohlers (6
th, season) and Nikki Olund (5
th, season) at 12:59. With just 1:02 left on the clock (18:58), CSB tied the game on Rooks' fifth goal this year and 14
th of her career. Assisting on the play by
Jenna Timm (7
th, season) and
Shae Stinnett (3
rd, season). For Timm, it was her 28
th assist of her career. In the period, Hamline had a 14-to-6 shots advantage.
In the second period, Hamline took a 2-1 lead on an even strength goal from Annika Lindgren (5th, season) off an assist by Sydney Lemke (9
th, season) at 5:31. In the second period, The Pipers had a 12-to-5 shots on goal advantage.
Hamline pushed the lead to 3-1 on a power play goal from Emme Nelson (9th, season) on an assist from Valley at 7:37 of the third period. Both teams have nine shots in the final period.
For the game overall, the Pipers had a 35-to-20 shots-on-goal advantage. The Pipers converted their only power play opportunity in the third period while CSB was 0-of-2 in power plays. Junior forward
