CSB Soccer drops 2-0 decision to league leader St. Catherine

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The College of Saint Benedict soccer team (4-4-1, 2-2-1 MIAC) dropped a 2-0 decision to St. Catherine (9-2, 5-0 MIAC) in MIAC play on Saturday afternoon.

The Bennies will now return to St. Joseph, Minn., to host No. 25 Simpson College (8-1-0) in nonconference play on Sunday at 3:30 p.m., at the CSB Athletic Turf Field. With the 2-0 loss to MIAC leader St. Catherine, the Bennies fall to 2-2-1 in league play and 4-4-1 overall. The matchup today featured two of the top eight teams in the region with CSB ranked 8th and St. Catherine ranked fifth in the most recent United Soccer Coaches rankings.

For most of the first half, CSB and St. Catherine played to a 0-0 tie until the Wildcats scored on an unassisted goal from Kaidin Camp with 44:09 to play in the first half. The game remained closely contested when SCU's Amanda Elton had her fifth goal of the season at 67:35. Briana Henaman assisted on the goal as the Wildcats took a 2-0 lead.

For the game, SCU had just a 14-to-12 shot advantage over CSB, which had a 10-to-9 margin in shots on goals. SCU maintained a 5-to-1 edge in corner kicks. CSB was led on offense by Alli Voss with three shots and two on goal. Sydney Burns also had two shots for the Bennies. In goal, Madisen Carter had her first start and allowed two goals with seven saves in facing 14 shots.
