ST JOSEPH, Minn.-- Despite a goal from
Addison Stephani, the College of Saint Benedict soccer team (4-3-1, 2-1-1 MIAC) played to a 1-1 draw against Augsburg University (6-1-2, 1-1-2 MIAC) in MIAC action on Wednesday afternoon at the CSB Stadium Turf Field.
The Bennies, which are ranked No. 8 in Region IX by United Soccer Coaches, are now 2-1-1 in MIAC play and sit 4-3-1 overall. Saint Ben's sits fourth in the MIAC just a half-game behind Macalester (4-3-1). The Bennies will travel to St Paul, Minn. on Saturday (September 30) to take on league leader Saint Catherine (8-2-0, 4-0-0 MIAC) at 1:00 p.m.
In the past two seasons, CSB is now 9-0-1, including 2-0-1 this year, at the CSB Stadium Turf Field.
Near the end of the first half, sophomore Stephani (Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) broke a scoreless tie by netting the first goal of the game at the 43:52 mark for CSB. The goal was Stephani's first of the season and the fourth of her career. Sophomore
Ellie Piette (Catholic Memorial High School/ Oconomowoc, Wis.) recorded her first career assist.
Augsburg responded at the 51:53 mark when Megan Hensel scored her third goal of the season. Jayla Ponce registered the assist for the Auggies. Hensel and McKenna Nachreiner each recorded two shots for the Auggies.
For most of the game, CSB controlled play and held a 19-to-12 margin in shots and a 15-to-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Bennies also held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks while both teams committed 21 fouls.
Alli Voss (Edina, Minn./ Benilde-St Margaret's) led CSB with four shots, while
Ella Young (Hudson, Minn./ Hudson) totaled three, and
Abby Willenbring (Lino Lakes, Minn./ Centennial),
Sydney Burns (Eagan, Minn./ Academy of Holy Angels) each recorded two shots.
