Voss scores second half goal to lead CSB Soccer to a 1-0 road win over Saint Mary's

The Bennies have won three straight games and improved to 4-3 on the year

WINONA, Minn. – Junior Alli Voss scored a second-half goal to lead the College of Saint Benedict soccer team (4-3-0, 2-1-0 MIAC) to a third consecutive victory by shutout with a 1-0 decision over Saint Mary's (3-4, 0-3 MIAC) in a road MIAC contest Saturday. 

CSB moved to 2-1 in the MIAC- with the victory and sit in a tie for third with Macalester (4-3, 2-1). The Bennies, which will host Augsburg at 4 p.m., on Wednesday (Sept. 27) at the CSB Stadium Turf Field, has three wins in a row, including two straight in MIAC play.

Voss (Edina, Minn. Benilde St Margaret's) has scored goals in three consecutive games. The goal by Voss at 76:15 of the second half broke up a tie and then the Bennies' defense held off the Cardinals. Voss, who is tied for ninth in the MIAC with three goals, had her 18th career goal.

CSB controlled action on the offensive end with a 15-to-5 margin in shots and a 4-to-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Bennies also held a 4-to-2 lead in corner kicks while both teams committed eight fouls. Voss totaled two shots while Abby Willenbring had three and Caralyn Conners and Ella Young both had two shots.

For the third straight game, CSB goalkeeper Annie Waters recorded a shutout. She had two saves in 90 minutes of play. Waters now ranks fifth in the league with .868 goals against average, allowing six in seven games played. She now has 20 saves on the year.
